Commonwealth Investment Council pledges to support SMEs in Cameroon.

The Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council, CWEIC has pledged to help boost the activities of actors in the Small and Medium Sized Enterprises, SMEs sector in the country.

The Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council, CWEIC has pledged to help boost the activities of actors in the Small and Medium Sized Enterprises, SMEs sector in the country.

The commitment was taken in Yaounde Monday during an audience granted the visiting Chairman of the Commonwealth Enterprise And Investment Council, Lord Jonathan Peter Marland.

He was received in audience by the Minister of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises, Social Economy and Handicrafts, Achille Bassilekin III.

The Commonwealth official arrived Cameroon at the start of the week for a working visit.

Speaking shortly after his audience with Minister Achille Bassilekin III, the Commonwealth Investment Council boss said his institution was ready to assist government boost the activities of the SMEs sector.

He said ‘‘Small and Medium sized enterprises are the heart of every country. There are the majority of businesses in these countries…we are here to encourage those in the sector to export and take their products abroad. It is a great struggle because naturally , they are concerned about the cost of flight and whether when they get into another country, there will be a market for them and also whether they will get a lawyer or an accountant who can help them set up their business’’.

He then pledged ‘‘We can help them with that. We have a Commonwealth Legal network with accountants in every country. We could give them a degree of security in setting up their business. Those are some of the things we want to work with government on’’.

Meanwhile, it was gathered that during the audience, Minister Achille Bassilekin III had presented to the guest, the three sectors of his scope of intervention which included SMEs, Social Economy Units and Craftspeople.
