Ring Road: Works ministry reveals Kumbo-Ndu stretch progressing satisfactorily.

Works ongoing along Kumbo-Ndu stretch of the Ring Road

The Ministry of Public Works has announced that construction works on the 39-km stretch Kumbo-Ndu road of National 11 in the North West Region is progressing at a satisfactory pace.

The ministry made the outing Sunday.

It also said the construction company, BUNS, is doubling its efforts to speed up the paving works.

With a progress rate of 48.37% as of October 25, 2025, the ministry said the construction work on the Kumbo-Ndu section, 39km, is proceeding smoothly under the guidance of BUNS.

It was revealed that on the ground, the teams are keeping up the pace of work on the earthworks, drainage and pavement.

The ministry said topographical surveys have been completed along the entire route, as has the staking while site clearance, which includes clearing undergrowth, cleaning, deforesting and stripping topsoil, has also been completed from KP 0+000 to KP 39+000.

The earthworks are 86.58% complete, with embankments and excavations already completed over almost the entire section, the ministry added.

It also said the roadbed has been accepted from KP 28+000 to KP 39+000, while the sub-base and base courses have been completed on the same sections.

The ministry said sand impregnation operations have been carried out between KP 29+700 and KP 32+700, in order to carry out the work related to the wearing course while work on the sewage works is progressing well.

They said the prefabrication of kerbs and gutters is under way, with almost 4,000 linear metres already laid while at the same time, work is continuing on the masonry embankments between KP 37+380 and KP 37+500.

The ministry noted that despite the heavy rainfall recorded in the North West Region and a complex operational context, the combined efforts of the project owner, the prime contractor and the contractor are ensuring that the work continues and that traffic can continue to flow.

The Kumbo-Ndu stretch, it should be said, is part of the Ring Road Project which spans approximately 357 kilometers. The project is a crucial economic and social artery linking six of the seven divisions of the North West Region.

As part of the government’s commitment to modernising road networks, the Kumbo-Ndu stretch of the Ring Road Project is bringing long-overdue relief to travelers and businesses alike.

BUNS Sarl, the company spearheading the Kumbo-Ndu segment, has been carrying out the works in earnest.

The sight of heavy machinery rolling through town, coupled with the hum of progress, has reignited hope among residents and road users who have endured years of deplorable conditions.

Local traders, transporters, and farmers are optimistic about the economic ripple effect of the project.

“For years, we have struggled with impassable roads, especially during the rainy season. This tarring is not just about comfort; it’s about economic growth, safety, and access to markets,” said Augustine Mbunwe, a cocoa farmer in Ndu.

With the slogan “Where a road passes, development follows,” expectations are high that the Ring Road upgrade will spur trade, tourism, and agricultural expansion in the North West Region.

As the asphalting process gains momentum, stakeholders eagerly anticipate the full realisation of this vital road network, which will redefine mobility and connectivity in the region.

Kumbo-Ndu road project, it should be said is estimated at a total amount of 34,925,833, 271 FCFA.

The Kumbo-Ndu road project falls in with the country’s development plan initiated by the government to improve the living condition of the population facing some challenges due to the socio-economic instability in the region.

Once completed, the road will facilitate transportation of goods to other regions with the aim of boosting the economic sector in the locality.
