Garoua-Boulaï: Minister Le drums peace, respect of election results.

Joseph Le, CPDM East Regional Permanent Coordinator

The head of the Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement, CPDM, party in the East Region, Joseph Le, has urged the population of Garoua-Boulai, Lom and Djerem Division of the East Region to shun violence and respect the outcome of the October 12 presidential poll.

The party official, who doubles as Minister of Public Service and Administrative Reform, made the call during a meeting in Garoua-Boulai Sunday October 19.

During the meeting, he called on citizens to preserve peace and uphold the democratic values. He used the rally to call on youths to focus on national unity, tolerance and the rejection of violence.

Local administrative authorities, community leaders, youths, and traditional rulers among others attended the meeting.

Addressing those in attendance, Minister Le stated that peace remains the foundation upon which the country’s progress and stability are built.

“…without peace, there is no life, no progress, and no future,” he declared. The minister reminded citizens that the recent presidential election was a major democratic exercise that gave an opportunity to every citizen of voting age to express their choice freely.

Minister Le insisted that there is need for all political actors and citizens to respect the verdict of the ballot box.

“The result that will be proclaimed will be the voice of the Cameroonian people, and we must all, without exception, accept it as the expression of our democracy and political maturity,” he noted.

Minister Le warned against hate speech, incitement to violence and threats that have surfaced in some quarters since election day.

“When schools, hospitals, and markets are destroyed, who will be left to lead? Ruins and tears?” he questioned. He cautioned young people in particular not to fall prey to manipulation by individuals seeking to destabilise the Region.

He reiterated that the Head of State, Paul Biya’s longstanding message of peace and unity in the country remains vital.

According to Le, the President’s leadership has been instrumental in preserving the country’s stability for decades. “The East Region has always stood out for its calm, wisdom, and respect for the law”.

The member of government condemned persons whom described as political opportunists who, according to him, exploit moments of uncertainty to sow division.

“Those who come today to incite disorder and hatred will not suffer the consequences. It is you, the people of Garoua-Boulaï, who will pay the price,” he warned.

He reminded the audience that violence brings only destruction and loss, while peace builds nations and sustains generations.

Minister Le urged citizens to stand as “apostles of peace” and “guardians of living together”.

He also encouraged community leaders, parents and youths to promote dialogue and reject hatred. “The State will not tolerate disorder, but it also counts on each of us to protect our peace,” he affirmed.
