The tarring of the long-awaited Nkambe-Misaje stretch of the Ring Road project in the North West Region, is gradually taking shape; with work progressing at a satisfactory pace.

According information obtained from the Ministry of Public Works, between November 8 and 15, 2025, the two companies charged with the construction of the road, BOFAS and SUPER CONFORT, had completed most of the hydraulic works, with eleven 1.5×1.5m scuppers installed and the 2×2 scuppers at KP 78+509 and KP 83+304 also completed.

Work on the Misaje bridge is continuing with the pouring of the footings and abutments and the start of the reinforcement of the beams.

On the ground, prefabrication of the T2 and CS2 curbs is continuing, with around 3,200 m of each type produced.

Work on the carriageway has focused on maintaining the section between KP 75+900 and KP 76+000 and the adjustment of the roadbed between KP 86+200 and KP 86+600.

The 2 x 2 gutters at KP 78+509 and KP 83+304 have now been completed and the formwork removed, while prefabrication of the 1.5×1.5 m gutters is ongoing.

At the Misaje bridge, pouring of the footings and abutments has been completed and the reinforcement of the beams is underway.

On the technical side, construction of the prefabrication workshop at PK 80+200 is continuing, with water and lighting operational.

Despite occasional stoppages, the teams remain focused on the priority works. The Nkambe-Misaje road is 18 km long.

The project to tar the Nkambe-Misaje stretch of road, it should be recalled, was awarded on September 13, 2023 to a consortium of Cameroonian companies, Bofas Sarl and Super Confort Sarl.

As of August 2024, the project had a completion rate of 10.75%.

The project was stalled in 2024 though no details were given as to the reasons for the low mobilisation of the companies on lot 3 of the Ring Road, on which work began in 2023 after several years of delay.

In 2024, the Ministry of Public Works had instructed the companies to “reduce the gap between the consumption of deadlines and the progress of work on the Nkambe-Misaje section”.

The ministry had regretted then that “despite the mobilisation of the teams on the ground and the lack of security, the delay in carrying out the services of the consortium is already having an impact on the overall execution of the Ring Road construction project”.

The Nkambe-Misaje section is part of the larger 280 km Ring Road project. The Ring Road project has a projected cost of 167.3 billion CFA francs.

It is being financed by three donors, including the African Development Bank, AfDB, which is expected to contribute 87% of the total budget.

The project once completed, will help to improve the living conditions of the people of the North West Region, as it will boost the movement of people and their goods.

It forms a loop between Bamenda, Bambui, Ndop, Babessi, Kumbo, Nkambe, Misaje, Nyos, Wum, Bafut and Bamenda.

The stretches across five of the seven divisions in the North-West region of the country.
