At campaign rally in Bamenda: Tchiroma apologises for denying existence of Anglophone crisis.

Issa Tchiroma during campaign visit to Bamenda

Issa Tchiroma Bakary, leader and presidential candidate of the Front for the National Salvation of Cameroon, FNSC, has pleaded forgiveness for previously stating that there was no Anglophone problem in the two English-speaking Regions.

The 76-year-old politician made the plea on Saturday October 4, 2025, while addressing the population of Bamenda during a campaign rally at the City Chemist Roundabout.

He equally took the Bamenda public by surprise, when he boasted that secessionist warlord, the US-based Chris Anu, “…is a very good friend of mine…we are in permanent contact. I told him I was coming to Bamenda and asked him to protect me…”!

The former government minister noted that he made such a statement while he was Minister of Communication and Government Spokesperson. He openly told the population that he was urged by his hierarchy to make the statement.

Tchiroma told the population of Bamenda that he is quite aware that there is a problem in the Anglophone Regions, and that he is ready to resolve the problem as soon as he is voted President.

“In my capacity as Minister of Communication and Government Spokesperson, I said there was no Anglophone problem. I am here to emphasise the fact that the Minister of Communication didn’t have the authority to say it, he was just a messenger. I understand that many of you suffered about the statement, you felt injured, but I also suffered because I had no choice,” Tchiroma said.

Dialogue to unite Cameroon

While addressing the population of Bamenda, Tchiroma said if voted President, he will organise a dialogue to address the longstanding problems in Cameroon.

“My commitment is to bring together all Cameroonians, irrespective of their political lineage, religion and tribe. All of us are shareholders in this nation, each of us has the same share,” Tchiroma said.

In order to address the problem, the presidential candidate noted that everyone must first of all identify and acknowledge the existence of the Anglophone problem.

“We have to know the root cause of the problem which has broken our nation, because once we know the reason, it is easy to find the solution. So, I will put in place a roundtable which will bring together all political leaders, secessionist leaders, federalists…we have to come together to listen to each other,” he stated

Liberation of political prisoners

Acknowledging the fact that many Anglophones have been imprisoned and others are on exile as a result of the over nine-year conflict, Tchiroma pledged to free all political detainees as soon as he takes over the Presidency.

“Since all of us are going to vote for Tchiroma on October 12, what I am going to do is that within three months, I will liberate all political prisoners…I will grant them amnesty,” Tchiroma added.

He tasked voters to protect their votes, by ensuring that they stay around after voting on October 12. After identifying himself with the people of Bamenda, Tchiroma left the city expressing joy and gratitude to the entire population who came out to receive him.
