Douala: Koshin Fon, Ju Wilson, succours over 750 IDPs with school kits.

The important assistance was offered the children by the traditional ruler of Koshin, His Royal Majesty Fon Ju Wilson.

The donation exercise was held at the courtyard of the Douala IV DO’s office in Bonaberi. The donation was the first in a series to be organised by Fon Ju Wilson. 

A similar exercise is expected to be organised on Saturday, September 6, in Wum, chief town of Menchum Division.

Those who benefited from the Douala donation included children who fled the conflict-hit Anglophone regions, particularly from Menchum Division, to seek refuge in Douala. 

They were carefully selected from across the various villages that make up of Menchum Division. 

Meanwhile, the items offered the vulnerable children included among others, exercise books, pens, colours, pencils, rulers, school bags, calculators, water bottles, buckets and math sets.

Speaking during the event, Fon Ju Wilson who initiated the project, described the gesture as his own small way of giving back to his people.

The monarch and graduate of the National School of Administration and Magistracy, ENAM, said he couldn’t sit and look away while hundreds of children battle to attend school due to lack of financial means. 

While hoping for a return of peace so the children and parents could return home, the influential traditional ruler admonished the beneficiaries to make maximum use of the assistance offered them. 

He said the Cameroon of tomorrow was in the hands of those who make the best out of the opportunities available today.

Speaking further, Fon Ju Wilson, who heads the Wouri Land tenure office in Douala, extended gratitude to other elite and friends of Menchum Division who supported his initiative.  

“Since this crisis started, I have always offered gifts to displaced people. I don’t do it because I have much. I have people and when this period approaches, I get to them to ask for support,” he said.

“I want to give special thanks to my Minister, Minister Henri Eyebe Ayissi who has supported me…I want to also thank Minister Paul Atanga Nji who supported me with a huge envelope. I also want to thank my Ntumfon, Dr Samuel Eto’o Fils who also supported me and equally Fon Chafah who gave me an envelope,” he added. 

“I am using this opportunity to call on the IDPs to be law abiding and to respect their parents,” the royal father said, before stating that “As a policy of the Head of State, as long as you are a Cameroonian, wherever you find yourself, you should feel at home”.

“I want to thank the people of Douala IV through their mayor for being hospitable to the IDPs from the North West and South West regions who are here,” he added.

Taking the cue, the Divisional Officer, DO, of Douala IV, who sat through the ceremony, thanked Fon Ju Wilson for coming to the rescue of the needy children.

The civil administrator said: “This ceremony is a demonstration of the generosity of a man who has decided to give a helping hand to parents of internally displaced persons”.

“We want to salute this act of generosity,” the DO said, before calling on other elite to join government in its efforts in assisting displaced persons. 

“We want to use this opportunity to call on the displaced persons to continue to live in calm as they have been doing and we are promising that everything will be done to ensure a return of peace in their areas of origin so they can return to their homes,” he continued.

For his part, the Mayor of Douala IV, Édouard Hervé Moby Mpah, described Fon Ju Wilson as not only a philanthropist but a blessing to humanity.

“As Mayor of Douala IV, I am very excited by this gesture of Fon Ju Wilson who has decided to assist parents displaced from the North West and South West regions,” he said. 

“This gesture will enable the children return to school in good conditions. We pray that next year, we will have a similar initiative. For the beneficiaries, it is important for them to go to school and get good results,” the mayor concluded.
