Kumba: Kosala III emerges champions of Mayor Nasirou's football tourney.

Kosala III are winners of the third edition of the Mayor Nasirou Ibrahim Unity Football Tournament. The final of the tournament was staged at the Government Bilingual Primary School, GBPS, field, Kosala, in Kumba II Subdivision.



The finals of the tournament took place on Thursday, August 28.

It was presided at by its organiser and cup donor, Nasirou Ibrahim Audu, who is also the First Deputy Mayor of Kumba II Subdivisional Council and Assistant Imam of Kumba Central Mosque.

Also present at the closing ceremony was Kumba City Mayor, Gregory Ntemoyok Mewanu, the Divisional Officer, DO, of Kumba II Subdivision, Edwin Nkenya Ngwana, the representative of the Mayor of Kumba II, Meme Divisional Chief of Taxes, the Mayor of Kumba III and enthusiastic population of Kumba II.

The final featured Kosala III FC against Starlight FC of Kosala.

After 90 minutes of regular play time of the thrilling encounter, both teams pulled a one all tie. 

Kosala III later carried the day following post-match penalties. A total of ten teams drawn up in two groups took part in the tournament.

The participating teams included Kumba FC, Starlight FC, Drinking Water FC, Young Kings FC, Nkebone One FC, Sweet Boys FC, Graceland FC, TFC Kosala FC, Santiago FC, and Pulletin (Meta) Quarters FC. 

According to the organiser, the tournament was aimed at occupying the youth in Kumba II Subdivision during the long vacation from being idle.

This, he said, they will shy away from juvenile delinquency and inculcate a sense of civic responsibility. It was also intended to fish out budding talents so as to enable them get exposures.

Mayor Nasirou Ibrahim also stated that being a politician, he was using the tournament to galvanize support for Paul Biya in the upcoming presidential election and local elections.

While thanking his peer Mayors and Councilors for turning out massively and donating individual prizes, the deputy Imam also expressed gratitude to the Kumba city Mayor, Gregory Ntemoyok Mewanu.

It should be noted that in the female category of the competition, Kosala III women defeated Bamessing women one nil.

At the end of the tournament, various prizes were awarded to meritorious teams, players, match officials, and fans clubs.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, the Divisional Officer for Kumba II Subdivision thanked the organizers before calling on the population to continue to put him in prayers to achieve his heart desires. 

While describing Nasirou as a blessing to the community of Kumba II Municipality, the DO hailed him for the peace effort in Kosala. The finals witnessed a massive turn-out of the populations of the area and beyond. It was spiced with musical, cultural, and choral animations.
