The General Manager of Cameroon Telecommunications, CAMTEL, Mafor Yah Judith Sunday epse Achidi, recently initiated a road safety and accident prevention educative talk in Donga Mantung Division of the North West Region.

The talk, which took place Saturday, August 23, 2025, at the Nkambe Council Multipurpose Hall for women and youth, was aimed at improving road safety and curbing the alarming road accidents along the Ring Road. It also had as aim to enhance Category “A” Driving License examination and acquisition, specifically targeting motorbike riders.

The impactful initiative, organised at the request of Mafor Yah Judith Sunday epse Achidi, and coordinated by Kuete Edith Ngefor, Donga Mantung Divisional Delegate of Transport, recorded a 90% attendance. It brought together motorbike riders, transport stakeholders, youth leaders, and community members.

The educative talk focused on equipping participants with critical knowledge and awareness on road safety practices, including the importance of wearing protective gear, adhering to traffic rules, and avoiding high-risk behaviours such as overloading and over-speeding.

The Ring Road, a vital but accident-prone route in the North West Region, was at the centre of discussions, with calls for greater responsibility and vigilance from road users.

A significant highlight of the event was the on-the-spot special examination session for Category “A” Driving Licenses, allowing motorbike riders, many of whom operate without formal certification, to regularise their status and improve their riding skills. Transport officials stressed that proper licensing is a key step toward reducing accidents and ensuring safer roads for all.

In her message to the participants, Mafor Yah Judith Sunday epse Achidi emphasised CAMTEL’s commitment to community wellbeing beyond telecommunications. She praised the initiative as a life-saving intervention and encouraged continued collaboration between public institutions and local communities.

On her part, Kuete Edith Ngefor expressed satisfaction with the turnout and active participation, noting that the education of motorbike riders is critical to reversing the trend of road accidents in the division.

Participants left the event better informed and empowered, with many expressing hope that such programmes would be sustained and extended to other parts of the North West Region.

Following the event, the CAMTEL GM has been receiving accolades from across the board for her broad-based and people-centred initiatives to safeguard the wellbeing of denizens.
