CAMWATER seeks stronger commercial strategy to boost performance.

Officials of the Cameroon Water Utilities Corporation, CAMWATER, have discussed steps to strengthen their commercial approach and improve overall performance.

This was the essence of a workshop which took place in Douala on Friday, August 8.

The meeting, chaired by the Director General of CAMWATER, Dr Blaise Moussa, was dedicated to evaluating the institution’s commercial situation and revenues.

The session brought together top managers and union representatives, for a moment of frank discussions on the company’s performance, challenges, and strategic direction.

Dr Moussa, in his address, underlined the need for “an aggressive commercial policy that focuses on the quality of service to the population”.

He urged the CAMWATER team to implement practical measures to enhance service delivery and revenue collection.

Dr Moussa also outlined key challenges currently hindering CAMWATER’s efficiency. He cited the professionalisation of sales management, delays in executing new connections and customer services, and the persistence of fraud.

The CAMWATER boss admitted that some of the challenges involve agents of the company. He also raised the issue of high level of customer debt, estimated at several billion of FCFA.

Dr Moussa equally highlighted the substantial investments made by the government and CAMWATER to improve water access nationwide.

He stated that between 2022 and 2025, the country’s water production capacity grew from 858,190 cubic metres per day to 1,179,858 m³/day. The distribution network, he said, also expanded from 7,837 km to 8,127.495 km.

These improvements, the CAMWATER boss said, form a strong foundation for the company’s new commercial vision.

Outlines concrete measures ahead

CAMWATER officials at the close of the workshop announced several measures to tackle inherent challenges. They resolved that a comprehensive diagnostic be carried out to lay the groundwork for a revamped commercial and marketing strategy.

This, they added, will be accompanied by modernised procedures and tools designed to improve financial performance.

Among the measures taken at the end of the meeting was the digital transformation of their services. CAMWATER plans to launch a dedicated online payment platform and an integrated commercial management application.

These tools, officials said, aim to streamline operations, enhance efficiency, offer more user-friendly services to subscribers and better combat fraudulent activities.
