The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, H.E Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has hailed and rewarded players of the country’s senior women’s national football team.

This follows their triumph at the just-ended 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, WAFCON.

The Super Falcons clinched their record-extending 10th title to cement their dominance on the continental scene.

Speaking during the grand celebratory reception at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, President Tinubu, said: “the victory was a triumph of courage, determination and consistency".

The victorious Super Falcons squad have been awarded with national honours cash gifts and apartments by president Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Each of the 24 players on the team received a national award of Officer of the Order of the Niger, a three-bedroom apartment and $ 100,000, approximately over 56 million FCFA.

The Order of the Niger, we gathered, is the second-highest national award in Nigeria, and it is said to be conferred upon Nigerians for outstanding service to the nation.

Also, the 11 members of the technical and administrative team also received a national award, a three-bedroom apartment and $50,000, approximately, close to 30 million FCFA.

The Governor’s Forum, the council of all state governors of Nigeria, donated $6540, over 3.7 million FCFA, to each of the players and the technical and administrative staff.

It is worth mentioning that the Super Falcons of Nigeria came from two-goals down to beat host Morocco 3-2 in the final of the WAFCON last Saturday.

The West African giants have won 10 of the 13 editions of the women’s continental competition since it began in 1998.
