Housing ministry, CASSID seal deal to professionalise interior designing.

Officials brandishing partnership agreement

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Development has signed a strategic partnership agreement with the Cameroon Chamber of Architecture and Interior Design Organisation, CASSID, to professionalise interior design in the country.

The partnership was signed on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, in Bafoussam, West Region.

The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Célestine Ketcha Courtés, signed for the ministry while Léonie Bwemba signed for CASSID.

The ceremony was attended by the Governor of the West Region, Awa Fonka Augustine, and a host of other dignitaries.

The signing took place on the sidelines of the Housing Week which took place in Bafoussam from June 30 to July 7, under the theme: “Innovating and acting locally in the face of urban crises: For sustainable and participatory management in favor of the development of Cameroon”.

The partnership, according to both officials, seeks to develop six major areas of work with the goal of professionalising, legalising, and structuring interior design in Cameroon.

The agreement also indicated that over the next three years, the two partners will work together to implement the clauses of the agreement, with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development to create a task force composed of human resources and CASSID to announce and facilitate the implementation of the actions envisaged by the initiative.

Speaking after the partnership agreement, Léonie Bwemba, said “this agreement is the first of its kind, and it officially recogniszes interior design as a profession”.

She also stated that the partnership also allows CASSID to establish its leadership as the sole representative entity for interior design in Cameroon.

Bwemba also mentioned that through this deal the organisation will work on inclusive design for people with reduced mobility and other persons with disabilities, with a goal for everyone to have easy access to public and private buildings.
