The Guardian Post Managing Editor Print Journalist of The Year.

Doh Bertrand receiving award from CAMASEJ National President

The Managing Editor of The Guardian Post newspaper, Doh Bertrand Nua, has won the 2024 Best Print Journalist Award.

He received the recognition during the second edition of the Cameroon English Language Newspaper Publishers’ Association, CENPA, Award in Buea, Saturday, July 5, 2025.

The award confirms Doh’s position as one of the brightest young minds in the Cameroonian print media landscape.

According to the award jury, he bagged the recognition for “demonstrating rare news reporting, editing and rare leadership qualities in newsroom management”.

Jury chair lauds laureates

The award was vetted by a jury, headed by celebrated rights advocate, Christopher Tiku Tambe, as President; rights lawyer, Agbor Balla as Secretary of the jury, and the President of CENPA, Ngah Christian as member.

Speaking at the event, the President of the Award Jury, Tambe Tiku Christoper, said the award is not the type given by government, where “people apply and follow up to be given medals”.

He said laureates were retained, based on key indications backing their work. Tambe Tiku told CENPA laureates to be proud of themselves, “because some members of the jury outrightly rejected some names that were proposed with evidences on the ground”.

Other publishers monitor my work

According to Doh, the recognition is an indication that other newspaper publishers see the work he does.

Doh said the CENPA Award is unique because of the calibre of people involved. Coming from a collection of over 35 newspaper publishers, Doh said he sees the recognition as having a deeper meaning.

He promised not to disappoint in the discharge of his duties as a journalist and newsroom manager.

“I will continue doing more because journalism in this era faces serious challenges; the advent of Artificial Intelligence, AI; unfriendly media laws, media economy and others,” the award-winning journalist stated.

He remarked that the recognition which adds to other awards he has won, “is an indication that I need to continue doing more”.

“I have to continue writing more impactful stories, upholding the canons of journalism, being truthful in reporting and in everything I do as a journalist and Managing Editor of The Guardian Post newspaper,” he stated.

The Guardian Post Managing Editor, Doh Bertrand, brandishing award

Dedicates award to The Guardian Post family

Doh dedicated the award to the Publisher/Editor-in-Chief of The Guardian Post, Kristian Ngah Christian, for believing in his skills and giving him the opportunity to practice journalism at the leading print media house in the country and to also serve as Managing Editor.

He equally dedicated the recognition to the entire The Guardian Post family, “for the support that they give me on a daily basis in my role as Managing Editor”.

“It is an award for the entire house, because without the support of my colleagues, I would not have had the mindset to continue writing impactful stories…,” he added.

Retracing Doh’s inspiring journalism journey

The high-quality journalist, with a penchant for investigative journalism, politics and sports reporting, is a trained fact-checker.

Until July 31, 2021, Doh was the Coordinating Editor and Yaounde City Reporter of authoritative bi-weekly newspaper, The Median.

Besides The Median, Doh also worked for Douala-based Balafon Radio, as its Yaounde correspondent. The native of Baligham, Santa Subdivision, Mezam Division of the North West Region, has had excellent stints in broadcasting.

The 2016 valedictorian of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, JMC, of the University of Buea, UB, developed passion for journalism since 2013.

In 2015, he did voluntary service at the Christian Broadcasting Service, CBS Radio Buea, while still in school. His mastery of sports got him a part-time job, same year at the Word Empowerment Radio, Buea.

Doh also worked at the Lake Site Radio and Ocean City Radio, Kumba. From there, he moved to Bamenda as one of the pioneer broadcasters at the Mediafrique Radio.

The multidimensional journalist also served at one time as the Kumba Bureau Chief of The Median newspaper. He equally had a stint with Limbe-based The Info newspaper and Kumba-based The Scoop Media Group, as a stringer.

Doh also spent some time at Equinoxe TV/Radio as Kumba correspondent. He put in three years as office assistant at the Meme branch of State-owned Cameroon Tribune newspaper.

Despite his ever-rising influence across the nation’s media landscape, The Guardian Post Managing Editor is also a researcher and data analyser.

With ten years of active journalism practice, Doh, many giants in the fourth estate have repeatedly said, and rightly so, is among those who represent the future of the noble profession in Cameroon.

The CENPA weekend award, it is now being stated, points to brighter days ahead for the fine journalist. He is former Secretary General of the Association of Student Journalists in the University of Buea, ASJUB.

He is also a trained humanitarian/peace journalist, under the Cameroon Community Media Network, CCMN and the Presbyterian Church in Cameroon, PCC Peace Office.

Doh is the Public Relations Officer of the Cameroon Community Media Network, CCMN, Yaounde Chapter.

He is a fellow of the third cohort of the Africa Fact-checking Fellowship, #AFFCameroon project by #defyhatenow.

He is also a member of the Yaounde Chapter of the Cameroon Association of English-speaking Journalists, CAMASEJ.

Doh has made hard work, dedication, integrity and passion his hallmarks within the slippery media landscape in Cameroon.
