United States: EUCLID University appoints Cameroonian, Prof Basile Njei, to key position.

Internationally acclaimed Cameroonian physician scientist, Prof Basile Njei, MD, MPH, PhD, is set to assume his role as a distinguished consulting faculty member in the School of Global Health and Bioethics, at EUCLID University. 

The Washington DC-based global leader in intergovernmental higher education, announced the appointment of Prof Dr Njei, on June 28, 2025.



In the statement announcing his appointment, the institution presented the Cameroonian as renowned expert, with a wealth of expertise in digestive diseases and a trailblaser, integrating genetics and artificial intelligence, AI, into medical research.

During his time at the university, Prof Njei is expected to contribute to strengthening academic and research mission; advance innovative research; contribute to teaching and mentorship; and enhance transformative global health solutions.

According to the university, his expertise aligns with the institution’s core values as he brings a multidisciplinary, transcontinental, inclusive approach to addressing global health challenges.

“Professor Njei’s appointment significantly enhances EUCLID University’s academic offerings and research capabilities, particularly in its Master’s and Doctoral programs in Global Health and Bioethics,” the statement announcing his appointment stated. 

As a consulting faculty member, Prof Dr Njei will develop and lead courses on advanced epidemiology, precision medicine, and AI applications in public health. 

He will equally inspire students, drive groundbreaking discoveries, and strengthen EUCLID’s global influence in health policy and practice.

By incorporating case studies from his work in Africa, North America, and Europe, he will provide students with a global perspective on health disparities, fostering the intercultural competence central to EUCLID’s ethos.

Prof Njei’s mentorship will be instrumental in guiding graduate students through complex research projects, particularly those leveraging AI and big data to address non-communicable diseases. 

 

Advancing innovative research

In line with EUCLID’s commitment to innovative global health solutions, Prof Dr Njei is expected to contribute to interdisciplinary projects exploring the intersection of genetics, AI, and social determinants of health, with a focus on liver disease prevention and management in resource-constrained settings. 

These projects will leverage the university’s global network, including partnerships with governments and international organisations, to translate research into actionable policies.

His appointment reinforces EUCLID’s role as a hub for global health leadership and his collaborations with African health ministries and international bodies will strengthen the institution’s capacity to influence health policy in the Global South.

Prof Njei: a global leader in medicine & research

Prof Basile Njei is an internationally acclaimed physician-scientist whose groundbreaking work in gastroenterology, hepatology, and epidemiology has redefined approaches to liver disease and digestive health. 

Holding advanced degrees in medicine (MD), public health, (MPH) and epidemiology (PhD), he combines clinical expertise with rigorous research to address some of the most pressing challenges in global health.

The native of Momo Division in the North West Region, is joining EUCLID University from At Yale School of Medicine, where he equally served as a faculty member. 

Njei’s extensive publication record, includes over 100 peer-reviewed articles in high-impact journals, such as The Lancet Gastroenterology & Hepatology and Hepatology. 

His studies on health disparities in liver disease outcomes, have informed public health policies, particularly in low- and middle-income countries, where access to advanced diagnostics and treatments remains limited. 

Additionally, his global health initiatives, including collaborations with organisations like the World Health Organisation, WHO, have advanced screening programs for hepatitis B and C in sub-Saharan Africa, contributing to SDG 3’s target of combating communicable diseases by 2030.

The university has expressed the wish to see Professor Njei’s works have a profound impact on its community and beyond.
