MTN Elite One: Aigle's relegation-survival bid gets major boost.

Aigle of Moungo

Aigle of Moungo have improved their chances of surviving relegation from first division football league, the MTN Elite One championship.

The Littoral Region club got the boost after registering a 3-1 victory over Canon of Yaounde.

The match was played yesterday. It took place at the Military Stadium in Yaounde.

In-form star, Yves Mbappe, scored a brace while his teammate Jean Bikatal added one to hand the Aigle team the victory which went down as Canon’s fourth loss in its last five matches in the competition.

Following the win, Aigle of Moungo which entered the match day holding a relegation-bound 13th position on the table bounced back strongly with a chance to escape the drop zone when the season ends.

The result saw the outfit moving from 29 to 32points.

The tally left the club in a position where it could move from the danger zone to a relegation-safety-bound 11th.

Astres of Douala and AS Fortuna who held the 11th and 12th positions respectively, also counted a total of 32points heading into yesterday’s match day 28 actions.

Aigle of Moungo is battling to avoid going down as one of the four bottom-placed teams that are expected to get relegated from the MTN Elite One championship at the end of this season.

The team which has 10 victories, five draws and 13 defeats this season, only secured promotion to the topflight last year as one of two teams that were promoted at the close of the 2023/2024 second division championship campaign.

The promotion had the club staging a comeback to the top division after spending some three decades in various inferior leagues.

The 28th round of matches in the championship will conclude tomorrow Tuesday June 17.

Victoria United Football Club of Limbe will entertain already-relegated side, Union of Douala at the Centenary Stadium in Limbe.
