Cameroonian-born Dr Adeline Abimnwi loses race to German Parliament.

Cameroonian-born Dr Adeline Abimnwi Awemo has lost the race to German Parliament. She ran for the race under the Christian Democratic Union, CDU, party in the state elections organised in the German Eastern Province of Brandenburg.

The parliamentary election took place on Sunday, September 22, in the city of Brandenburg.



Dr Abimnwi emerged fourth with a 12.1% vote, coming behind the candidates of BSW, AID and SPD parties.

In a message on her official LinkedIn page, Dr Abimnwi expressed sincere gratitude to all those who came out to support her either through sponsorships or giving her their votes. 

“I will like to express my heartfelt thanks to everyone who voted for me, supported me and sponsored me. It has been an eventful time that is only just beginning,” she said.

In her message to the public, she added that: “Sunday was not a good day for the CDU in Brandenburg. I have had a lot of positive experiences in the last few months during the election campaign, met and listened to a lot of people, gathered a lot of opinions, seen a lot of things, gave a lot of interviews had a lot of good difficult conversations and moments”.

Expressing her interest in politics, Dr Abimnwi explained that she knew her dreams will be changed when she joined the CDU, which is the party of the formal German Chancellor.

“In Germany, I had to intergrade. I have been helping people in the field of integration. I have seen the educational system in Germany while in Cottbus actually I joined the CDU party in December 2020. I call myself the corona member,” she added.

While campaigning in the Cottbus city, Dr Abimnwi disclosed that she had been subjected to racist attacks and this attracted media attention to her in favour of her.

Dr Abimnwi said she is not the type to easily give up her desire to defend the rights of her supporters. She said she will keep going and hopefully one day she will the election to take up a seat in parliament. 

Dr Adeline Abimnwi Awemo, aged 47, whose parents originate from Bambili in the North West Region, was born in Kumba, Meme Division of the South West Region of Cameroon.

She attended secondary school in the Our Lady of Lourdes College in Mankon, Bamenda, North West Region, and proceeded to obtain a Bachelor’s degree at the University of Buea before moving to Germany.
