The physical and financial execution of projects in Tubah municipality in Mezam Division of the North West Region, for the first half of 2024, have come under scrutiny.

This was during the mid-term evaluation session of the council, that was organised in Bambili on September 6, 2024.

Councillors deliberated on the state of projects in the municipality and also made inputs as to what could be done to better the rate of execution.

Speaking at the start of the session, the Mayor of Tubah Council, Tanjong Martin, listed a good number projects that have either been completed or are ongoing.

He presented projects funded by the Pubic Investment Budget, BIP, in sectors such as education, water, road infrastructure and livestock.

In the education domain, Mayor Tanjong mentioned the rehabilitation of two blocks of two classrooms each, at GS Ntembang and GS Nchoken.

In terms of infrastructural development, he said the council engaged the construction of road with pavement bricks from Elissam j

Junction to Bujong Junction, construction of reinforcement concrete bridge at Ngophana and Mbih.

There is also the construction of Ntah-Achi farm-to-market road, opening of 2.5km road with culverts to Mushongmabuh touristic site as well as road maintenance in the municipality.

The project to extend electricity to Nchoken community (Lot 2) and Ngophana community (Lot1), is said to be on course, plus the construction of water tank catchment and extension of water in Bambili village.

The Tubah Council is also said to have acquired bricks moulding machine, constructed a mini mortuary in Bambili and three ponds at the council are being set up to promote fish farming.

Council funded projects

Apart from projects being executed by funds from government through BIP, the Tubah Council is also using its own resources to undertake development initiatives, for the wellbeing of the population.

Mayor Tanjong mentioned among others, the recruitment of 168 youth for holiday jobs, planting of trees and flowers to beautify the town, setting up of Tubah Council library in partnership with Community Vision Group, support to vulnerable population and the construction of two classrooms with plastic bottles which is ongoing.

Several other projects which were lobbied by Mayor Tanjong Martin, including the pavement of CCAST Street, construction of market stores in Mbiwi market, rehabilitation of road section in Momninie, Katika Junction to Agric road, Pacific Junction up to Government road and Mile 10 up to village road.

Memoranda of Understanding, MoU for the three projects are said to have been signed already. Aside all the projects evaluated, a list of proposed matured projects for 2025 to be funded by the Public Investment Budget were also presented.

Councillors who sat through the session and participated in the review of projects of the current fiscal year, saluted the council executive for the commitment to ensure transparency and accountability, as well as its dedication to fostering development in Tubah.

Mayor Tanjong promised that they will do all it takes to ensure that all projects for this year are completed by the end of October.

State of finances

One of the high points of the day was the presentation of pending reports from the Finance Committee.

The report had been withheld during the budgetary session in early this year due to inaccuracies in the figures presented.

The absence of the former Municipal Treasurer, MT, was identified as a critical factor contributing to the discrepancies in the financial records.

As a result, the Finance Committee was tasked with a 10-day follow-up period to revise and correct the records to align with the data in the council’s accounting software, SIMBA.

The session equally had in attendance the Senior Divisional Officer for Mezam, Simon Emile Mooh.
