At opening of SAGO 2024: Minister Le restates gov’t’s commitment in modernising public service delivery.

The member of government whose ministry has for years, consistently focused on modernising the public service sector, made the declaration in Yaounde Monday. 

Minister Le was speaking at the opening of the 13^th edition of the Government Action Fair known by its French acronym SAGO.

The opening ceremony was presided over by the Minister of Communication, Rene Emmanuel Sadi. He was representing Prime Minister, Head of Government, Chief Dr Joseph Dion Ngute. 

Speaking during the heavily-attended ceremony, Minister Le described SAGO as a strategic national gathering.

Actions anchored on digital transformation 

Minister Le said the Ministry of Public Service and Administrative Reform remains consistently purposeful in not only modernising but speeding up the public service delivery as championed by the Head of State.

He said the most strategic areas of the changes which were instructed by the Head of State during his end-of-year address on December 31, 2018, is anchored on the digitalisation of the different components of the ministry’s activities.

The member of government cited the new digital platform for the verification of the authenticity of diplomas and the new human resources management platform known by its French abbreviation as AIGLES, as the flagship projects showcasing the efforts. 

AIGLES replaces the second version of the Integrated Computerized Management System for State Personnel and Payroll, SIGIPES II, which was launched in 2021. 

According to the minister, the recently introduced platform has put the ministry on the right path toward attaining the groundbreaking vision of taking the speedy delivery of services at the ministry to an all-new level.

This, he said, is satisfactorily so, as the tool smoothly works in notably consolidating and streamlining the management of careers and government payroll and gives users reason to trust the ministry due to the its transparent nature. 

“Not only does it considerably reduce the time taken to process files and integrate the chain of payment for the financial effects of actions taken, but it also strengthens confidence and transparency,” the minister said.

Top among the main beneficiaries of the platform, the minister added, are civil servants, government employees governed by the Labour Code amongst others.

Actors in the judiciary, court registries and those of the prison service as well as pensioners, the minister added, also stand out as major beneficiaries of the already fruitful technological and administrative adjustment. 

High-level conference today 

Minister Le also said the structure will be holding several gatherings in the course of the SAGO event to better inform the public of the strides that the ministry is making in improving the sector and get their views on how to further adjust for the better.

He said the first conference to that regard will hold today with the first theme focusing on the much-talked about information and communication technology tools that the ministry is using to modernise the country’s public service administration.

The conference, the member of government added, will be a new avenue to showcase the AIGLES platform as an ideal IT tool for the modernisation of human resources management.

Another platform known as the mapping workstations will also be discussed. The platform, it was gathered, is a tool used in controlling the number of government employees.

The second theme of the discussion, Minister Le detailed, will be generally anchored on governance and efforts in improving the services delivered to users.

The member of government said talks in the course of the second theme will deal with the progress made popularising the use of digital technology in public services notably on “advances in the modernization of recruitment processes and the acceleration of the integration of secondary education staff,”

“It will provide an opportunity to edify participants on certain IT tools deployed at the Ministry of the Public Service and Administrative Reforms and to gather their observations, with regard to the following sub-themes,” Minister Le said.
