ANOR Director General, Booto A Ngon, dies in Yaounde.

The death has been announced of the Director General of the Standards and Quality Agency, ANOR, Charles Booto A Ngon.

His demise was confirmed by the state institution in a message published on its Facebook page late Saturday night. 



“Goodbye and thank you Mr Director General,” read the statement, accompanied by photo of Booto A Ngon. ANOR further indicated that its Director General died June 29, 2024, the age of 67.

The ANOR boss had been admitted at the Yaounde Emergency Centre in the country’s capital city weeks back, but his health situation is said to have deteriorated until he passed on.

Information about his demise first surfaced in the public space on Thursday June 27 but it was only on the night of Saturday that family sources confirmed he had died.

The 67-year-old native of Mbam and Inoubou Division of the Centre Region had been at the helm of the institution since February 19, 2010.

As Director General of ANOR, he played a crucial role in the promotion and maintaining standards and quality, contributing to economic development and protection of consumers. 

He died barely two months after he was enthroned as traditional ruler of Ngan in Bafia in the Mbam-et-Inoubou on May 4, 2024.

Born on May 15, 1957 in Yaounde Charles Boto a Ngon obtained a diploma in civil engineering, and led a long career at the Ministry of Mines before being appointed pioneer Director General of ANOR.

Staff of the institution he served as Director General and the population of his native Bafia, have been mourning the death of Booto a Ngon since his death was made public.

He is said to have also contributed enormously to the development of Bafia and the Mbam & Inoubou Division as a whole. He was also a supporter of the ruling Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement, CPDM party.

It was created by Presidential Decree No. 2009/296 of September 17, 2009 with main mission is to contribute to the development and implementation of government policy in the field of standardisation and quality in Cameroon.

This, in liaison with the administrations as well as public and private organisations.

The institution is responsible for the development and approval of standards; certification of compliance with standards; promotion of standards and the quality approach among public administrations, para-public administrations and private sector organisations.

It also monitors cooperation with international organisations and specialised committees in the field of standardisation and quality; conducts studies relating to standardisation and developing proposals for measures aimed at improving the quality of products and services, as well as compliance with standards. ANOR also disseminates information and documentation on standards.
