At 2024 Excellence Awards ceremony: The Scoop honours distinguished Cameroonians.

Authoritative weekly newspaper, The Scoop, has restated its commitment to continue playing a frontline role in supporting the country’s development agenda through the recognition of Cameroonians and Cameroonian institutions making visible strides in their respective fields.



The fresh commitment was taken by the in Limbe Saturday June 1, by the Publisher of The Scoop, Larry Esong Akang.

This was during the 9th edition of The Scoop Excellence Media Award which held last Saturday June 1.

Over 20 Cameroonians and institutions were honoured at the ceremony for their outstanding contribution to nation building in their respective walks of life. 

The heavily attended ceremony held at the Marcsons Hotel in Limbe, Fako Division of the South West Region.

The event was attended by several high-profile state personalities as well as heads of parastatals and private institutions.

The representative of the Governor of the South West Region, Bernard Okalia Bilai, also graced the event. 

 

Pushing nation-building through excellence scheme

The Scoop Excellence Media Award, it should be said, was launched in 2015. The 2024 series was the nineth edition of the scheme.

Speaking during the award, Publisher of The Scoop, Larry Esong, said all the winners of the 2024 edition were selected after a rigorous and transparent selection process.

He said members of the organising committee including himself, Mayor of Kumba I Council, Barrister Eseme Moses Esembe; Mayor of Kumba II Council, Chief Mbachu Jacob Kay; the Mayor of Kumba III Council, Dr Mukwelle Isaac Nguba; in itself speaks volumes of the importance given to the scheme and the entire selection process. 

According to the Publisher, the award scheme is designed by The Scoop Media Group to contribute to nation building through the recognition and compensation of Cameroonians and Cameroonian institutions working extremely hard to be distinctive. 

“The award scheme is The Scoop Newspaper’s contribution to nation building by recognising and honouring excellence in all fields of life. This is an opportunity to acknowledge the efforts of Cameroonians in what they are doing in their various fields,” Esong said.

“It has been a long journey for us. We are here particularly celebrating the milestone that we have attained with the program. I want to thank all our partners for their support; SONARA and Palm Oil Plantation and all other individuals and institutions that stood by us to help realize this dream,” he added.

Recognising excellence

More than 20 distinguished Cameroonians from all walks of life were honoured during the ceremony.

Laureates included those from the media, local development, entrepreneurship, national security, health, entertainment and banking and finance. 

In the banking and finance sector, fast-rising and nationally-trusted microfinance institution, Mmockmbie Credit Union secured the 2023 Best People-Oriented Customer Service Credit Union with Distinct Poverty Alleviation Scheme Award. 

The financial institution was represented at the award event by its General Manager, Ngezem Fortosom.

The institution got the award for its distinguished performance in the field of people-oriented customer service delivery which has over the years, expanded to among others, including a rich online coverage.

The General Manager of Lobe-based agro-industrial giant, PAMOL Plantations Plc, Solomon Tapea Mbile, bagged home the 2023 Most Resilient, Productive and Outstanding Public Cooperation General Manager Award. 

He was singled out for his unwavering resilience in maintaining the institution at the top of its game despite several challenges. 

The 2023 Best MP with a Particular Taste for Development Award went to Hon Fonge Julius, the Member of Parliament for Kupe-Muanungeba II in the Nguti Subdivision of the South West Region.

Dr Nyamba Elvis of the Kumba II Council in the Meme Division of the South West Region secured the 2023 Most Productive Council Development Officer Award. 

 

Several media executives, journalists honoured

In the media sector, the Publisher of The Municipal Updates newspaper, Cham Victor Bama, was honoured with the 2023 Most Consistent Dual Tabloid Young Publisher of the Year Award.  

Equinoxe TV journalist, Julienne Berthe Bissai, bagged the 2023 Best French Language Newscaster Award.

Nalova Akua of Cameroon Insider newspaper published the Cameroon News and Publishing Corporation, SOPECAM, grabbed the 2023 Young Print Media Journalist of the Year Award. 

 

Laurates express gratitude to The Scoop readers 

Since the award ceremony, the various laureates have in separate interviews expressed gratitude to The Scoop Media Group for the distinction, pledging to do more in future in the various sectors. 

Nalova Akua who got the 2023 Best Young Print Journalist of the Year Award, said “It’s a great honour and a pleasant surprise for me to learn that someone, somewhere, has been reading my work and appreciates it. It’s not every day that we receive such recognitions”.

“To me, far from being a moment of celebration, it’s a call to perform even better. Once more, I thank the organisers of this award for finding me worthy enough to earn it,” The Cameroon Insider journalist added.
