Movie crusading against drug abuse, ABAKWA, to premiere soon.

ABAKWA: Saying no to drug abuse

The highly anticipated crime drama, ABAKWA, directed by Song Nestor, is set to premiere later this year. This film is more than just a piece of entertainment; it is a powerful tool in the fight against the alarming rise of harmful drugs that have been wreaking havoc, particularly among the youth.

Based on a true story, ABAKWA delves into the devastating effects of an illegal drug called "Kayouk," made from human bones.

The narrative follows a former crime lord who, after serving 35 years in prison, seeks redemption by teaming up with a law enforcement officer to dismantle a criminal syndicate involved in human trafficking, rape, and the production and distribution of Kayouk. His mission to right his past wrongs forms the crux of this gripping tale.

ABAKWA stands out not only for its thrilling plot but for its deep, meaningful message. It sheds light on the scourge of drug abuse and the catastrophic impact it has on communities.

The film highlights the struggles and resilience of the people of Bamenda, known as Abakwa, painting a poignant picture of their fight against the decadence brought about by drugs.

"Our motivation behind writing this movie was to shine a light on the struggles and triumphs of the people of Abakwa and the negative effects of the Kayouk drug," said co-writers Roy Amabo and Song Nestor. "While the film is set in Cameroon, the dangers of drug abuse and illicit activities portrayed are universal".

Under the skilled editing of Takong Delvis, ABAKWA promises to be a cinematic experience like no other. With its gripping plot twists, vibrant characters, and powerful themes, the film is poised to resonate with audiences worldwide, leaving an indelible mark on the collective consciousness.

The film will premiere in select theaters across Cameroon and Africa later this year. Its production, overseen by Norwegian production company Johansen Studios, reflects a commitment to high-quality storytelling and societal impact.

"This movie was produced with blood, sweat, and tears. The end product gives me and my team a feeling of inexplicable joy," said producer Franck Johanssen. "We have started a journey that will change lives and bring more awareness to these drug-related issues. The Cameroonian film industry is in desperate need of exposure, and Johanssen Studios is proud to play a role in this process."

Director Song Nestor added, "Abakwa is not just a movie but a movement, a crusade against addiction, and a vision to educate and prepare young people around the world for a better future. Artistically, the movie was told as simply as possible so that anyone from any culture around the world can watch and understand."
