One of Cameroon’s leading opposition parties, the United Democratic Party, UDP, of El Hadj Bochong Aku Lawan Bako, was among the political parties that did not only take part but made an impressive showing at this year’s 52nd edition of the National Day, which was celebrated nationwide in Cameroon, on Monday May 20.

The party supporters in three of the seven Divisions of the North West Region, came out in their numbers, to take part in the civilian march past of the 20th May celebration.

In Menchum Division, the party supporters came out massively in the divisional headquarters of Wum, as well as in Benakuma in the Menchum Valley Subdivision for the National Day celebration.

With the yellow and white colours of the party, they demonstrated their attachment to the oneness of Cameroon as they marched past in front of authorities.

Similar march past steps were portrayed by UDP supporters in Fonkuka, Bum Subdivision of Boyo Division as well as in Ako and Misaje, in Donga Mantung Division.

The presence of the UDP supporters in various events organised to mark the National Day across the North West Region, according to its National Chairman, El Hadj Bochong Aku Lawan Bako, speaks of their commitment to continue pushing for a one, peaceful and indivisible Cameroon, as preached by the Head of State, President Paul Biya.

It was not the first time the party was massively mobilising for the celebration of the National Day.

Last year, the party is said to have earned messages of congratulations from the Senior Divisional Officers, SDOs, of Donga Mantung and Boyo, for their massive participation during the National Day.

According to the party Chairman, they were looking to stage a more spectacular march past this year but were met with some obstacles.

El Hadj Bochong Aku Lawan Bako regretted that security forces barred his supporters from taking part in this year’s 20th May festivities in Fundong, Boyo Division and Nkambe, in Donga Mantung Division.

UDP supporters making impressing march past

The UDP party, just like other political parties in the country, has continued with grassroots mobilisation, calling on its ever-growing supporters to register on electoral list and get ready for forthcoming elections in 2025.

The UDP leader has remained a strong voice within the political circle in Cameroon and believes his party can contribute to helping Cameroonians overcome multitude of challenges they face daily.

The UDP, it should be said, has been one of the key allies of the Presidential Majority that has played a key role, not only in securing victories for Biya at presidential elections but also contributing hugely to a one, peaceful and indivisible Cameroon.

Its emblematic National Chairman, El Hadj Lawan Bako, it should be recalled, is the Spokesman of the Presidential Majority.

They met recently with the Prime Minister, Head of Government, Chief Dr Joseph Dion Ngute, and assured the Star Building occupant of their resolve to help President Biya obtain a more than comfortable victory at the 2025 presidential election. They were led to the Star Building, by their Spokesman, El Hadj Lawan Bako of the UDP.
