New Nigerian Consul General to NW, SW, begins diplomatic stay in Cameroon.

Ambassador Taofik Obasanjo Coker

The newly appointed Consul General of Nigeria to the North West and South West Regions of Cameroon, Ambassador Taofik Obasanjo Coker, has arrived the country for a diplomatic sojourn.

The senior Nigerian diplomat arrived the country Friday, May 10, via the Douala International Airport.

He was received upon arrival by a no-nonsense delegation led by Nigeria’s Consul General to the Littoral and West Regions, Ambassador Francis Enya.

Other members of the delegation included home-based officers from the Consulate General of Nigeria in Buea, HRM Jonathan Onyenagubor, Eze Gburu Gburu 1 of Ohana Eze Ndi Igbo and other members of the Nigerian community resident in Douala.

Ambassador Coker has expressed his delight at the reception by the Nigerian delegation before using the opportunity to solicit the support and cooperation of the Nigerian Community members in his area of jurisdiction, the North West and South West Regions.

He has assured the members of the Nigerian community present of the goodwill of the current administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for all Nigerian nationals in the diaspora.

The new Consul General also lauded the great achievements of his predecessor, Ambassdor Lawal Bappah, before promising to continue to build on his legacy in the course of further deepening the already robust bilateral relations between the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Republic of Cameroon.

His Excellency Taofik Obasanjo Coker later departed Douala for Buea, where he and his family members were warmly received by home-based officers and the local staff members of the Consulate General of Nigeria in Buea.

At the reception organised in honour of His Excellency Taofik Obasanjo Coker, the officers and staff of Buea Consulate General expressed how pleased they were to receive their new Head of Mission.

Ambassador Taofik Coker also expressed deep appreciation for the colourful reception accorded him and his family.

He urged them to extend the same support and cooperation accorded to him by his predecessor.

It should be recalled that Taofik Coker was appointed Nigerian Consul General to the North West and South West Regions in late April of this year.

His appointment was approved by President Bola Tinubu. He was approved for the job alongside 11 other Consuls-General, and five Chargè D’affaires for 13 Countries.

In an outing then, Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, charged the newly appointed Chargé D’affaires, CDAs, and Consuls-General, CGs, to be good ambassadors of Nigeria.

The minister while congratulating the officials, asserted that their appointment is pivotal to the economic drive of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He further charged the diplomats, who are expected to resume immediately to recommit themselves through concerted efforts for the development of the country.

He stressed that: “As seasoned career diplomats, they should shun the act of politicking and recommit themselves to their calling of diplomacy for the collective interest and development of Nigeria”.

Reacting on behalf of the new appointees, the just appointed Consul General for the Consulate in New York, Ambassador Abubakar Jidda, reiterated the commitment of his colleagues to uphold the ethos of the profession.

Jidda pledged to bring the much-needed investments to the country.

He further expressed his gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the leadership of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the confidence reposed in them.
