PCRN banned from May 20 march past.

Djikdent Emmanuel Mariel: Mfoundi SDO

The Senior Divisional Officer, SDO, of Mfoundi, in the Centre Region, Djikdent Emmanuel Mariel, has banned opposition party, Cameroon Party for National Reconciliation, best known by its French abbreviation as PCRN, from participating at this year’s National Day march past.

The decision is contained in a letter the civil administrator addressed to the PCRN Divisional Delegate for the Mfoundi, Wednesday May 15.

The decision, the SDO said, is based on the ongoing infighting within the party, which is likely to create tension and disrupt festivities during the parade.

“While saluting your active participation during preparatory meetings in view of civilian march past of political parties, within the framework of celebration of the 52nd edition of the National Day, I have the honour to inform you that your party would no longer take part in the march past…,” the SDO said in the correspondence.

It should be recalled that the PCRN, has for months, been being witnessing leadership tussle between one of its Founding Fathers, Robert Kona and the party’s National President, Hon Cabral Libii.

The Mfoundi SDO’s decision, it should be noted, follows that of the Minister of Territorial Administration, Paul Atanga Nji, regarding the representation of the said party at the level of Elections Cameroon, ELECAM.

Minister Atanga Nji, it should be said, had in a letter addressed to the Director General of Elections at ELECAM, dated May 15, indicated that the Founder and President of the PCRN, is Kona Robert.

In the past months, there has been infighting between the Founding Father of the PCRN, Robert Kona and the National President of the party, Hon Cabral Libii, with both personalities claiming leadership of the party.

The imbroglio within the party dates back to December 2023. According to Kona, he created the party in 2003 alongside Albert Fleury Massardine and needed to regain its leadership in order to “reshape it”.

He is said to have dragged Hon Cabral Libii to court and filed a case against him at the Kaele Magistrate Court in Mayo-Kani Division of the Far North Region. The two politicians have in the past months taken turns to dismiss each other from the party.

Hon Cabral Libii was voted National President of the PCRN on May 11, 2019, during the party’s first Ordinary Congress in Gidiguis, in the Mayo Kani Division of the Far North Region.
