US Ambassador to Cameroon

The United States, US, government has launched the Expand Family Planning and Sexual and Reproductive Health, ExpandPF project.

The ExpandPF project which is a FCFA 4.2 billion ($7 million) five-year investment initiative, is aimed at improving access to family planning services, postpartum care, and community health worker involvement, particularly in underserved urban and peri-urban areas.

The project was flagged off Thursday in Yaounde. The US government launched the project through the United States Agency for International Development, USAID.

The ExpandPF project in Cameroon is a part of a comprehensive US government program with a total budget of FCFA 27 billion ($45 million), implemented in Cameroon, Côte d'Ivoire, Mauritania, and Togo.

In Cameroon, the project is being implemented by the International Planned Parenthood Federation, IPPF, in collaboration with the Cameroon National Planning Association for Family Welfare, CAMNAFAW.

By partnering with local organisations and the government of Cameroon, ExpandPF aims to facilitate knowledge exchange and enhance family planning and reproductive health in the country.

In his opening remarks at the launch in Yaounde, US Ambassador to Cameroon, H.E Christopher Lamora, highlighted that: “ExpandPF is designed to build on the lessons learned from the U.S. Government’s previous family planning and reproductive health projects in West Africa”.

The diplomat added that: “This is not just a project; it is a promise to empower communities and foster an environment where families can thrive”.

ExpandPF will complement two other USAID activities in Cameroon – PROPEL Health and Global Health Supply Chain –to improve access to comprehensive sexual and reproductive health services in Cameroon.

PROPEL Health is a FCFA 1.2 billion ($2 million), five-year initiative focusing on advocacy, governance, policy, and financing, while the Global Health Supply Chain is a FCFA 3 billion ($5 million), five-year project focusing on the procurement of contraceptives and the provision of technical assistance.

The US government has maintained that it remains committed to working with government and its partners to create sustainable solutions that address the diverse health challenges in the country.
