Dja-and-Lobo junior MP, Jonathan Engamba, promises socio-professional integration of youth in constituency.

The congress which was the first of its kind, brought together the seventh batch of youth MPs and first batch of senators. It was chaired by the Senior Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon Hilarion Etong. He was assisted by the Senate Vice President, Senator Vaniganssen Mochiggle. 

Speaking to the press at the end of the congress, the young MP said his motivation for becoming a youth MP for his constituency is zeal to carry the voice of youths of his division to the highest level. 

“We want that at any level, the voice and views of the Dja and Lobo youth should be heard by the authorities in our area and beyond so as to bring about solutions to their different challenges,” Hon Engamba said.

When quizzed about his project priorities for his constituency, the youth MP explained that resolving the problem of socio-professional reinsertion of youths will be top on his agenda. 

He revealed his plan contained in a programme dubbed “100 youth, 100 employment”.

By this initiative, he said that he will work towards securing academic internships and volunteerism opportunities in enterprises for their professional development. “This will enable a good number of young Cameroonians to have professional experience and to have opportunities in enterprises for recruitment,” he said. 

“We will regroup all youth MPs to form an association, as it is always said, the more we are together, the more we become stronger. So all the young MPs of the region have mounted a programme to meet the authorities in each localities in the South Region so as to come up with innovative projects to youth challenges,” he added. 

With agriculture sector said to be the back born of the country’s economic development, Hon Engamba said there is a lot of opportunities in this sector and would want his peers to take a leap from him.

“Being a youth specialize in the agriculture sector, specifically in the cultivation of corn, what we envisage is the mechanization of agriculture because many farmers do artisanal activities, it will help us to reduce the time for cultivation and to do produce in mass,” he told The Guardian Post.

It is worth noting that, Hon Engamba is a former footballer. He was a player at the Roger Milla football academy and a former U17 international with the national team. He was also once pre-selected for the Lions U23. 

He is said to have decided to give up on his football career at a time he was allegedly being approached by clubs in Europe, to pursue a career in the world of business. 

During his playing days, he was fondly referred to as Zlatan Ibramovich, for his playing style similar to that of the former Swedish player.
