The annual ritual unfolded on the school campus, situated at Mile 7 Nkwen. The new students include those of HND, BTS, Bachelor's and Master's Degree programmes.

The event also featured the installation of the executives of the students' government.

The new students, during the ceremony, took the matriculation oath, promising to abide by the internal rules and regulations of the school.

The shining records of the higher institute, through good academic results, added to series of awards won, Dr Apana Akob told the freshmen, remain the best point of attraction for the school.

According to the Vice Chancellor, all the achievements are thanks to the highly qualified and dedicated staff, supportive Management Board, appropriate infrastructure and environment conducive enough for effective teaching and learning.

“When you blend the students who have been properly selected, the cream of staff that is top-notch and the infrastructure, you don't expect anything shorter than success," Dr Apana Akob stated.

Admission into all National Polytechnic University Institute Bamenda Schools and Programmes, Dr Apana Akob revealed, is ongoing and will end very soon when their mentor Universities do the final admission of students.

The Vice Chancellor also used the occasion to explain the vision of NPUI, which he said is to reduce unemployment amongst the youths, by providing them with professional education and skills needed for the job market.

Students’ gov’t installed, staff appreciated for good work

The Managing Director of National Polytechnic University Institute Bamenda, Yong Jack, used the occasion to install members of the Students' Union Executive body, headed by Futsi Chiara Nyah.

The VC urged students’ union executives to be servant leaders and not master leaders.

He extended hearty gratitude to both the dedicated academic and non-academic staff of the institution, for the excellent job they are doing in impacting knowledge on students.

Dr Apana Akob also appreciated the Management Board for what he described as an impressive renovation work done to give the NPUI main campus a new look.

Enter students’ union president

The President of the Students’ Union, Futsi Chiara Nyah, after assuming office, promised to launch a fight to bring about moral rectitude in the University Institute.

Drug abuse, occultism, cyber criminality and scamming, Nyah said, are some of the moral ills that are gnawing deep into the fabric of university milieu.

"I look forward to making sure Polytechnic Institute be the leading academic institute, not only in their results but I want a society where we have morality put ahead before other things," she promised.
