Achidi Judith hailed for crusading peace in Donga Mantung.

Dr Ndoh Simon Nkwenti made the appraisal Sunday September 10. This was at the close of the third edition of Mafor Yah Judith Sunday epse Achidi Peace and Unity Cup. The final of the tournament, which brought together over 25,000 people from across Donga Mantung Division, took place at the Nkambe Municipal Stadium.

The administrator singled out the cup donor, who is a celebrated elite of Donga Mantung Division, for ceaselessly using sports and other means to promote peace and development in the area. The SDO said it remains gratifying to recount the persistence of the CAMTEL GM in engaging youth in peaceful initiatives for the good of the entire Division.

The tournament, which lasted three months, enjoyed the benevolence of the CAMTEL GM, who has remained a crowd-puller across Donga Mantung Division, the North West Region and Cameroon in general. The cup donor invested five million FCFA in the tournament to prepare the atmosphere for peace, living together and effective schooling in Donga Mantung Division. 

Foundation launched in honour of Col. Sunday Nfor Lawrence 

In another phase of the sports fiesta Sunday September 10, there was a mini cross country race. The race marked the official launching of the Col. Sunday Nfor Lawrence Foundation. The Foundation is to sustain the rich legacy of Judith Achidi’s father, the late Colonel Sunday Nfor Lawrence.

Some 1,500 children, comprising pupils and students received didactics worth two million FCFA. The donation was extended to all the five Subdivisions that in Donga Mantung Division. Representatives from Ako, Ndu, Nkambe, Nwa and Misaje Subdivisions were on hand to receive the didactics for further distribution to beneficiaries in their respective areas.

A representative of the late Colonel Sunday's family at the event, said the Foundation seeks to support and encourage sustainable development in Donga Mantung Division. The same family representative said they are out to sustain the rich philanthropic legacy of the late Colonel Sunday Nfor.

Message of resilience Donga Mantung must emulate

Speaking at the crowd-pulling ceremony, the SDO of Donga Mantung said the late Colonel Sunday Nfor was different and made a mark in his life because of the strength and energy he had while alive. 

“It is this strength and energy that enabled Colonel Sunday Nfor Lawrence to become a military officer. We are here to hand this donation on behalf of the Foundation so that education may continue to be the bedrock of Donga Mantung," Dr. Nkwenti Simon stated. 

Those who preach against education, the administrator said, are enemies of mankind. He congratulated the family of Achidi Judith for investing resources to promote education in the Division.

Bafana Bafana of Ndu wins trophy

Meanwhile, in the hotly contested final of the tournament, Bafana Bafana of Ndu defeated Buca Junior of Nwa, by four goals to two. The winners went home with a cash prize of 1,000,000FCFA. The runners up, Buca Junior FC, received a cash prize of 600,000FCFA. The third and fourth placed teams in the tourney were given 300,000FCFA and 200,000FCFA cash prizes respectively.

The fair-play trophy went to Bo Nyar FC of Nkambe. The highest goal-scorer, Weyi Letus of Moh FC, was also given a cash prize. Ewang Frankline of Bo Nyarr FC emerged The Best Player of The Tournament, while The Best Goalkeeper of The Tournament prize went to Fai Ciduan of New Market FC. 

Historic ambiance & fanfare 

The ambiance, colourful start and end of the tournament, many have said, bares testimony to the influence and growing popularity of Achidi Judith, in the development and wellbeing of the population of Donga Mantung.

Other administrators, elite, traditional rulers and the population streamed to the grandstand with all battling to live the historic moment. From vuvuzelas to traditional music and other dance groups, the display of joy and love among the population during the event, sent signals of a new beginning in the peace and effective schooling efforts of Achidi Judith.

The finalists entered the turf in the fray of the ambiance, but separated in the first 45 minutes with no goal on either side. When action resumed during the second half of the game, it was Bafana Bafana that opened scores within five minutes of play, while Buca Junior equalised three minutes later. The match ended with one goal on either side. It was during the post-match penalty shootout that Bafana Bafana carried the day by four goals to two.

Bafana Bafana thus joined Maiscam FC of Ndu, that lifted the trophy in 2013 and Algayu FC of Ndu, which clinched the trophy during the second edition of the tourney.
