Suspected Amba fighters kill Police Commissioner in Bamenda.

The incident is said to have occurred at about 10 a.m, in the Ntamulung neighbourhood in Bamenda II Subdivision. We gathered from sources that the late Assila, was on a visit in the neighbourhood, which is reported to be his former quarter, before armed men opened fire on him.

He was rushed to a health facility, where medics later pronounced him death after he sustained bullet wounds. Sources close to the uniform officer revealed he was head of the Bamenda II Special Branch Police Station. Reports further hold that he had just returned from Yaounde, before the unfortunate incident occurred.

The Guardian Post also gathered that the late Assila had lived and worked in Bamenda for more than several years. Colleagues, friends and family members of the late Assila, have been mourning since his death was announced. They have described him as someone who was very hardworking, jovial, friendly and easily accessible. 

As at press time last night, no group had claim responsibility for the incident. The killing of the law enforcement officer comes at the time Bamenda and other parts of the crisis-hit North West regions have been witnessing relative calm.

The incident happened at the time the region is busy with preparations for back-to-school for the 2023/2024 academic year.
