Limbe: Three perish in road accident, downpour kills two.

The death of two is linked to heavy rains that resulted in flood across neighbourhoods in the seaside town. 

At least one person is reported missing in the Mawoh vicinity following the rains of Wednesday. 

A mix or runoff and mud ended up bringing down some homes and a health facility around the Down Beach area.

Patients are said to have been evacuate from the Down Beach PMI Clinic while staff and other visits swam to safety as the floods increased.

The Regional Delegate of Public Health for South West, Dr Eko Eko Filbert, visited the affected health centre. He was accompanied by other health officials.

In other affected neighbourhoods, it turned out that some of those affected are Anglophone crisis Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs.  The children were relocated to safer places.

More landslides expected 

According to the Regional Head of the Regional Centre for Epidemics, Prevention and Control, Dr Agwe Samuel, more landslides are anticipated in the affected areas. 

Dr Agwe who spoke with reporters after visiting the flooded areas said the situation warrants people to vacate risky zones without delay. “More landslide is anticipated as the land is already cracking,” Dr Agwe remarked. 

The Senior Divisional Officer, SDO for Fako, Mr Chaibou, convened a crisis meeting same Wednesday following the floods. To address the situation, the SDO said: “…all must ensure access to good drinking water and improved hygienic conditions”.

He urged council authorities to thediscourage the construction homes “in areas earmarked as high-risk zones in Limbe; immediate health needs to the injured receiving treatment in hospitals and to identify commodities and support to the most vulnerable especially IDPs and kids”. 

The administrator also ordered for an inventory of the property destroyed.

Three die in road accident

Later same Wednesday, a tragic accident happened in the same city, killing three persons. Eyewitnesses recounted that the accident involved a commercial motorbike which had on board two persons and a truck. 

Respondents said the truck in trying to dodge a pothole on the road, collided with the motorcycle, leaving its occupants dead. Two other persons in another car which the truck also hit, reports hold, sustained injuries. They were rushed to a health facility.
