Biya in Paris for New Global Financial Pact Summit.

The summit convened by the President of the French Republic, H.E Emmanuel Macron, opens today. Discussions will end Friday June 23.

The President of the Republic took off from the Yaounde-Nsimalen International Airport yesterday on board a chartered flight alongside his wife, Chantal Biya, UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador. 

The Head of State is accompanied by some members of government and Cameroon’s Ambassador to France, André Magnus Ekoumou.

Other members of the official delegation are; the Minister of External Relations, Mbella Mbella; the Director of  Civil Cabinet of the Presidency of the Republic, Samuel Mvondo Ayolo; Minister of Finance, Louis Paul Motaze; Minister of Public Works, Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi; Minister of Economy, Planning and Regional Development, Alamine Ousmane Mey; Minister Delegate in charge of Special Duties at the Presidency of the Republic, Ghogomu Paul Mingo; Special Adviser to the President of the Republic, Vice-Admiral Joseph Fouda; and the Chief of State Protocol, Simon Pierre Bikele.

The summit, which will be attended by world leaders, seeks to build a new contract between the countries of the North and the South in addressing issues related to climate change, health hazards, economic crisis, innovative financing amongst other global concerns in view of attaining the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

It is worth noting that in November 2022, on the occasion of the G20 Summit and at the end of a COP27 with mixed results, Emmanuel Macron, had announced the holding of an international conference aimed at taking stock “on all the means and ways of increasing financial solidarity with the South”.

The first day of the summit will feature an opening ceremony, followed by six round-table panels, 30 branded events and over 50 parallel events. The last day of the forum will be marked by a closing ceremony to announce the conclusions of the summit discussions.

Meanwhile, several world leaders had confirmed their participation in the summit. Some of them are; Ajay Banga, President of the World Bank; Antonio Guterres, Secretary General of the United Nations; Ursula Von der Leyen, President of the European Commission; Vanessa Nakate, activist and UN Goodwill Ambassador, Melinda French Gates, philanthropist and co-founder of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
