Fruits of multidimensional sensitisation: 3,520 Amba, Boko Haram fighters surrender, join DDR!.

He made the disclosure in a declaration to reporters at the NDDRC head office in Yaounde, June 9, 2023. He said the media outing was to inform national and international opinion on recent trends of more fighters dropping their arms in the troubled Regions. 

The development in the three Regions, Fai Yengo said, are fruits of the committee’s robust “multidimensional sensitisation”. 

The multidimensional sensitisation, Fai Yengo added,  is further yielding fruits as “the message of peace, unity, development is penetrating all the nooks and corners of the concerned Regions”.

“The young Cameroonians who yesterday heeded calls from the dark and were still in the bushes are today heeding more and more to the hand of peace extended to them by the President of the Republic, H.E Paul Biya, in their numbers. I am pleased to inform you that today, we have a total of 3,520 ex-fighters in our centres,” Fai Yengo declared.

He said, in the last few days, the three DDR centres, have received about 100 ex-fighters in the three Regions, including 60 in Mora, 40 in Buea and Bamenda.

Fai Yengo further boasted that the “negative actions” of Cameroon’s detractors, “particularly those of the diaspora, are gradually and surely approaching the zero point. The warlords are toothless bulldogs today barking in shame”. 

While saluting the positive role of the media in the peace process, Fai Yengo, appealed to the populations in the troubled Regions to “stand firm, be truthful, courageous and be wise so that we can bring home our derailed children”.

The NDDRC boss, while reiterating Cameroon’s oneness, unity and indivisibility, was categorical that “so long as these children continue to loiter in the bushes, we cannot pretend to be at peace or at ease”. 

Fai Yengo also called on “elite and those who intervene at all levels of action, development and decision-making, to openly condemn with one voice those who are still in the bushes and are encouraging and supporting” the mayhem in the crisis-hit Regions. 

“I will like to appeal once more to the children themselves who are in the bushes to come out and go to DDR centres. Their friends who have done so are alive, are free and have not been taken to any prison,” he reiterated, adding that “the hand of peace of the Head of State has protected them”. 

Fai Yengo appealed to all and sundry to join forces with defence and security forces and collaborate with them in order to bring back normalcy to the three crisis-hit Regions. 

He told reporters that prior to the outing, he had received coordinators of the Buea and Bamenda DDR Centres and reiterated the need for them to immediately move the ex-fighters to the newly constructed centres, “so that the reintegration process should kick off and make them to become normal Cameroonians” once more.
