CPDM scribe says hate speech propagators enemies of Cameroon.

The menace to the country’s stability has continued to attract widespread rejection.

Authorities of the ruling Cameroon People's Democratic Movement, CPDM, have now joined the fray in condemning the scourge perpetrated in parts, by some well- known supporters of the party.

In a statement circulated this week, the Secretary General of the CPDM Central Committee, Jean Nkuete, described perpetrators of hate speech as enemies of the state.

The CPDM scribe said celebration of the 51st edition of the National Day throughout the country has demonstrated to the world “the immeasurable desire for peace and stability, as well as the unshakeable will of all Cameroonians for unity and living together”.

In the aftermath of the said event, the CPDM scribe has urged supporters and sympathisers of the party “as well as all our compatriots of goodwill, to redouble vigilance and perspicacity, in order to counter and annihilate the speeches and behaviour of hatred, exclusion and stigmatization…whose development is more and more perceptible in the public sphere”.

“These are basically actions by enemies of the Republic manipulated by shadowy forces both inside and outside the country whose main objective is to undermine the stability of our institutions and subtly instill the venom of social unrest in our country in the run- up to the important 2025 elections,” he continued.

“In this respect, I strongly condemn all those who, in their statements and actions, particularly when taking the floor in public tend to sow the seeds of division and disunity, by exploiting communities and maliciously exploiting the difficulties that our country continues to be confronted with, as it is the case for all countries in Africa and the world,” he added.

He has called on supporters of the CPDM not to allow themselves to be distracted by the hateful, dangerous and demobilising speeches propagated on social media, radio and television or in newspapers.

The CPDM strongman has described such actions as “seeking to minimise the impact of international constraints on the national front to discredit the remarkable actions of the Government which has enabled our country to face up to the challenges with pride, to demonstrate its resilience and to ensure better living conditions for its people every day”.

He was categorical that hate speech pits communities against each other in a deliberate move to deconstruct community life and national solidarity.

“Thus, the Secretary General of the Central Committee calls on the local leaders of the Party (the various Heads of Regional and Divisional Permanent Delegations, the Presidents of CPDM, WCPDM and YCPDM Sections), and all elected members of the Party (Senators, Members of Parliament, Regional Councilors, Mayors and Municipal Councilors), to step up local actions to sensitise militants on the virtues and requirements of living together, peace national unity, stability and mutual respect, in accordance with the ideals of the Party…in liaison with the administrative authorities, to denounce and combat hate speeches and community behaviour, in particular by making judicious use of the legislative and regulatory provisions relating to respect for others,” he urged.

Jean Nkuete has meanwhile challenged supporters of the CPDM to support unreservedly government measures to combat hate speeches and tribalism.

He said for more than ten years under the esteemed impetus of the National Chairman, President Paul Biya, through it functioning and the organisation of its daily activities, the CPDM has been resolutely committed to the battle for living together in peace, stability, solidarity and promotion of positive diversity.

He has commended the relentless efforts and sustained commitment of “all our compatriots of goodwill to ensure, against all odds, the safeguarding and promotion of Cameroonian identity characterised by unity in diversity, as envisioned by the founding fathers of our country, and as fully embraced by His Excellency Paul Biya, President of the Republic, Head of State”.
