Harold Moukoudi says deserves return to Cameroon national team.

Cameroon international defender, Harold Moukoudi, says he deserves a return to the national team after an impressive season with Greek side AEK Athens.

The centre-back was speaking earlier this week in an interview with Littoral base renowned radio station, Radio Sport Info, RSI.

Moukoudi was making the bold declaration shortly after winning the 2022/2023 Greece Super League with The Yellow-Black, the clubs first triumph in five years.

He later capped-off his first stint with the club a few days later by winning the Greek Cup.

During the Cup final, Moukoudi scored the opener on 26 minutes to inspire AEK Athens to a 2-0 win in the final against PAOK as they claimed the title for the first time in seven years.

It is arguably Harold Moukoudi’s best season after winning his first trophies at club level. This has pushed the AEK Athens reliable defender to express his desire to return to the national team after being left in the cold.

He said his performances and stellar title winning season with AEK Athens, was enough to have the head coach of the national team, Rigobert Song, have a rethink and recall him to the lion’s den for upcoming international duties.

“It is a great moment in my career. It is the first trophy of my career. I am filled with joy. I deserve to return to the national team. My performances today are evidence of that,” Moukoudi said.

Harold Moukoudi has played 27 games for AEK Athens this season since joining from Saint-Etienne. He has scored twice and helped the team keep 15 clean sheets.

The 25-year-old right footed defender has been one of the pillars behind his team’s successes this season.

Moukoudi is relishing the opportunity to replicate his form with the Cameroon national team which could be valuable in their pursuit for continental glory.

“Personally, I have done everything possible to return to the national team and my performances today speak for themselves. We work today to receive a call-up,” the former Middlesbrough defender added.

It should be recalled that Harold Moukoudi made his debut for the Cameroon national team in October 2019.

This was during a friendly encounter against Tunisia which ended in a goalless tie.

Moukoudi was part of Cameroon’s squad who took part at the belated 2021 Africa Cup of Nations last year where he won a bronze medal.

The French youth international who was establishing himself as a fan favourite received a backlash after he missed one of the penalty kicks in the semi-final defeat against Egypt.

It ruined the Indomitable Lions chances of reaching the final on home soil and potentially winning their sixth AFCON title after 2017.

Since then, he has been unable to make the cut. He missed out from the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar and from the country’s qualification matches for next year’s Nations Cup in Ivory Coast.

It is believed that with his new form, Harold Moukoudi could add something extra to Coach Rigobert Song’s line up as the Central African nation remain confident of qualifying for the AFCON next year.
