Mezam: SDO promises Amba fighters hell for kidnapping, torturing women in Babanki.

In a statement Tuesday, the administrator assured the population that investigations are underway to track down perpetrators of the heinous crime.

"The Senior Divisional Officer of Mezam firmly and strongly condemns this gender-based violence and untold barbarism against unarmed civilians,” partly read the statement issued by Mooh.

While calling on the entire population to continue collaborating with authorities and security forces, the SDO asked the people living in Big Babanki to remain calm, adding that security forces are on the field to re-establish peace.

It should be recalled that in the early hours of Saturday May 20, a group of women took to the streets to denounce the atrocities of Amba fighters on the population of the village.

According to a video that circulated on social media, the said women were captured and taken to an unknown location by a group of Amba fighters, who later on mercilessly tortured them.

The viral video portrayed how the women mostly of about 50 years and above sat on the ground and were being questioned by armed fighters.

According to information gathered, the women had taken to the streets to denounce the atrocities of separatist fighters especially levy imposed on the population of the village. 

They are also said to have protested the forceful imposition of levies of 10,000 FCFA on men and 5,000 FCFA on women by separatist fighters.
