Ndu Mayor, Kanfon Borno, gets state recognition with distinguished medal.

He received the medal of Knight of the Cameroon National Order of Valour at the Ndu Municipal Grandstand May 20, during celebration of this year’s National Day. The medal was affixed on Mayor Kanfon Borno, by the Divisional Officer, DO, of Ndu Subdivision, Adamu Shuaibu Ibrahim.

Speaking at his residence during a cocktail he offered the population of Ndu, council executive and staff to honour the medal, a-usually-humble Abdou Borno, said he lacked words to express gratitude for the State recognition. 

He said the medal will spur him to make sure that he leaves an indelible mark in fostering the development needs of Ndu Municipality. Mayor Kanfon added that the medal will serve as a source of inspiration for him to do more for his Municipality. 

Accolades galore

The award of the distinguished medal to Abdou Kanfon Borno has been receiving accolades.

The 3rd Deputy Mayor of Ndu Council, Nsame Emmanuel, said the medal is well deserved. He emphasised that for the first time in the history of Ndu Council, young men and women are the ones running affairs in the Municipality, unlike in the past when they were merely praise-singers for politicians. 

He noted that the youth of Ndu are already taking charge of their destiny by joining the development bandwagon being steered by Mayor Borno. 

For his part, Ndzi Neville, in a tweet, likened Abdou Borno Kanfon to Nostradamus, “the man who saw tomorrow”.

Development luminary

It should be recalled that Abdou Kanfon Borno was elected Mayor of Ndu on February 20, 2020. Since then, he has entered the annals of Ndu Municipality as a development luminary. Pundits have been lauding his development and managerial savvy as unrivaled.

It is because of his zeal to see his Municipality transformed into an Eldorado that Mayor Borno has, despite an avalanche of challenges, tarred some streets in Ndu town, opened up and upgraded rural roads, constructed health centres, classrooms, electrified villages, among others. 

The Mayor has also recorded achievements in the Municipality in the domains of water supply, solar street lighting and the construction of a befitting council building.

Because of his dexterous management of the council and development strides, Ndu has witnessed a steady return of peace, resumption of economic activities, schools and development projects. 

Visibly happy Ndu residents have averred that the Municipality is a ‘Grand Chantier’, with development projects sprouting here and there. 

Mayor Borno’s life-changing dev’t projects 

One of the major steps which the Mayor took immediately after taking office in February 2020, was to restore the council that had, prior to his arrival, operated in Bamenda as a result of insecurity, to its base. 

The development-driven Mayor and his team have sourced funds and launched the execution of income-generating activities, especially as the Municipality was among top income-generating councils in the entire Region prior to the crisis. 

This was followed by a one-on-one strategy to talk to the population, get them understand the need for peace and for development projects to follow in the Municipality. This move has greatly paid off. 

Good lobbying skills for projects 

The Mayor and his team have laid to rest the water problems that previously disturbed the Municipality. This was through the execution of two water projects in Ndu worth 8 million FCFA. This adds to another water project in Ntumbaw and the construction of a health centre in Mbokop village, among others.

The council has equally purchased a 1,000 watts transmitter and other equipment used for the successful restoration of the once defunct community radio in order to keep the Municipality glued to national and global happenings.

The Mayor equally initiated steps to re-launched water projects worth 338 million FCFA sponsored by the Special Council Support Fund for Mutual Assistance, FEICOM, which were stalled by the armed conflict. Through his lobbying, FEICOM made available 418 million FCFA for works for a new council building.

Partnerships to help transform Ndu

Mayor Borno has embarked on building partnerships with civil society organisations and individuals with expected outcome being projects that will positively impact all the 17 villages in Ndu Subdivision.

The Mayor has taken moves to rehabilitate abandoned large fish ponds owned by individuals and made plans to create poultry farms and fish ponds to offer employment to youth and increase council revenue.

Ndu Council has, under Mayor Borno, also acquired five hectares of land with plans to come up with a nursery where they can nurse palms and sell to local farmers, while some will also be planted on the council farm. 

Achieving the aforementioned and many others in less than three years in office, many say, is because of Mayor Borno’s unflinching love for development.

Political strategist 

It should also be noted that Mayor Borno is equally the Section President of CPDM Donga Mantung II, Ndu. Those who are closed to him within political circles say he is one of the greatest political strategists Donga Mantung II has ever known. 

Since he took up the helm of the party in Ndu, there has been a great improvement in results. Public opinion in Ndu holds that the likes of Abdou Borno are unique. 

Meanwhile, before his election as Mayor, Abdou Borno had served as Islamic Education Secretary for the North West Region for several years, and was later elected National Islamic Education Secretary.

He was also Bui Divisional Delegate of Public Contracts from 2017 to 2020 before the councillors of Ndu conferred on him the Mayoral position. 

It should be noted that Abdou Borno was Islamic Education Secretary for the North West Region for 18 years. He was supposed to occupy the position for six years, but his tenure was exceptionally extended by the Minister of Secondary Education because of his outstanding results. He was also GCE Board councillor for almost 15 years.
