President Biya congratulates King Charles III on his coronation.

Last Saturday’s coronation event, staged in strict British tradition, was attended by several world leaders, celebrities and international figures. 

In an official telegram addressed to His Majesty King Charles III, President Biya said: “It is a great pleasure for me to extend to you my warm and heartfelt congratulations on your coronation as King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and that of your wife as Queen”.

While wishing the King and his royal family good health and happiness, the Head of State prayed his reign to “witness great success and contribute to the welfare of the British people”

The Unity Palace occupant also assured the British monarch of his readiness and that of his government to work further towards strengthening the already excellent and long-standing relations of friendship and cooperation between Cameroon and the United Kindgom.

It is worth mentioning that, President Biya was represented during King Charles III’s coronation by a heavy delegation led by the Prime Minister, Head of Government, Chief Dr Joseph Dion Ngute. 

The Cameroonian delegation was also made up of the Minister of External Relations, H.E Mbella Mbella; the Minister Delegate to the Minister of External Relations in charge of the Commonwealth, Felix Mbayu, and the Director of Cabinet at the Prime Minister’s Office, Confiance Ebune, among others. 

Another delegation of defence forces added flair to Cameroon’s participation during the coronation ceremony. On the invitation of the British monarch, the delegation of the Cameroonian defence forces played a key role during the coronation processions of King Charles III and Queen Consort to and fro the Westminster Abbey through the streets of Central London.

The delegation of defence forces was made up of eleven officers drawn from the National Gendarmerie, Army, Air Force and Navy. The Cameroonian contingent was amongst the 604 troops from some 34 Commonwealth countries that took partake in the coronation ceremony alongside thousand other troops from the UK.

The defence delegation that arrived London several days to the coronation, was led by Major Foming Rodrigue Boris.

Meanwhile, as the coronation took place at Westminster Abbey, the UK High Commissioner to Cameroon, Dr Christian Dennys-McClure, invited some personalities to his residence in Yaounde to watch the event live on television as it unfolded. This was later followed in the evening by a reception at the Yaounde Hilton Hotel.

It should be noted that the relationship between the two countries dates back to before Cameroon’s application for Commonwealth membership in 1989 and its full membership that was confirmed on November 1, 1995.
