East Region: Taxation DG rallies thousands to thank Biya for appointment.

This was during a meeting that brought together elite from all the four Divisions of his East Region of origin. The meeting held over the weekend in the locality of Abong-Mbang in the Upper Nyong Division.

The come together, according to Athanase Meyong, was first of all to thank God for his appointment as well as an opportunity to reiterate the position of the ruling, Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement, CPDM party, in the East Region.

His appointment, he added, is a call for him to be selfless in serving the Cameroonian people. The taxation boss promised to do all within his powers to merit the confidence of the Head of State.

The Secretary of State in the Ministry of Public Works in charge of Roads, Armand Claude Ndjodom, on behalf of the elite of the East Region, thanked President Paul Biya for choosing Athanase Meyong as taxation DG.

This, he said, demonstrates the love and privileged children from the East Region have in the heart of President Paul Biya for since 1982.

Roger Athanase Meyong in a nutshell 

The 54-year-old elite native of the Upper Nyong Division, Roger Athanase Meyong Abath, according to many, is a square peg in a square hole.

He holds a PhD in public finance obtained in 2010, a Master’s degree in administration obtained in 2016; a Master’s in tax policy and administration obtained in 2006.

He holds a graduate diploma in International Relations with an option in money, banking and finance obtained in 2003, and a professional master's degree in banking, money and finance obtained in 2000 as well as a Master's degree in economics obtained in 1997. 

The Taxation DG is a graduate from the National School of Administration and Magistracy, ENAM. In 2005, he was made head of the International Tax Relations and in 2007, he was promoted to head of the Validation and Reimbursement of Tax and. In 2020, he was named inspector of taxes until March 20, 2023 when he was appointed by a Presidential decree as Director General of Taxes.

Athanase Meyong is also lecturer in several universities viz; University of Yaounde II, INTEC of Paris among others. He also lectures at ENAM, and the International Relations Institute of Cameroon, IRIC and is author of several books.
