At security meeting in Yaounde: MINAT boss promises authors of rising insecurity hell.

The territorial administration boss sent the warning message in Yaounde yesterday. This was at the end of a special security meeting. He said the Head of State, President Paul Biya, instructed officials to tackle the issue of rising insecurity in Yaounde and its environs.

The meeting was attended among others by the Minister of Transport, Jean Ernest Messina Ngale Bibehe; the Governor of the Centre Region, Naseri Paul Bea and the Senior Divisional Officer, SDO, for Mfoundi, Emmanuel Mariel Djikdent, alongside all Divisional Officers of Yaounde. 

Also in attendance were heads of different security services and representatives of commercial bikes and taxi drivers’ syndicates.

On the disturbing security situation in Yaounde, Minister Atanga Nji said reports received show most of the acts are committed in taxis and on commercial motorbikes. 

In some cases, the Minister said, bikers and cab drivers are even members of such gangs.

The Minister said in the meantime, security forces have cracked down on several of such gangs but maintained that it is time to put an end to such repeated attacks on citizens across Yaounde and beyond.

He insisted that findings have been made and the modus- operandi of the gang members have been known. He insisted that the time to act is now. 

“We will not unveil what awaits them here, but it will be implementated henceforth,” Atanga Nji told reporters at the end of yesterday’s meeting.

The Minister appealed to leaders of bikers and taxi drivers' syndicates to provide details of their associations to the competent administrative authorities.

He equally instructed that henceforth, to acquire a vehicle or bike, the proprietor must provide the name of the driver while bikes will only be sold only to those who have matriculation numbers.

Going by Minister Atanga Nji, henceforth, anyone who buys a taxi or a commercial bike must give authorities details of the rider or driver as the case may be.

Before yesterday’s meeting, several civilians had been killed, others assaulted and their belongings looted on several occasions. 

The situation had gotten out of hand with many calling on authorities to act.
