MTN Cameroon employees salute Human Resource Director for effective leadership.

Employees of the leading telecommunications company, MTN Cameroon, have hailed the company's Human Resource Director, Emilliene Evangeline Biboum, for having exhibited excellence in corporate leadership.

They say since she got to the helm of the HR Department at MTN Cameroon, there has been increased efforts towards ensuring employees' development.

Evangeline Biboum has held the position of Director of Human Resources at MTN Cameroon since March 1, 2020.

Prior to this date, she held the same position respectively at SCB Cameroun and DHL International in charge of Cameroon, Chad and Central African Republic, CAR.

At the beginning of her career, she had spent several years in research and organisational consulting firms. Her expertise has enabled her to carry out several missions in human resources management, communication, sociology of organisations, setup, projects management, economic and competitive intelligence in several African countries.

Joining the MTN group in the first half of 2020, Biboum could only transmit her rich portfolio as Human Resource Director to revolutionise the work environment and enhance relationship between employees and their leaders. There had been fluidity in internal communication delivery.

Her campaign, dubbed "HR and You”, was strategically drafted to enable staff to evolve to the levels of their full potentials and feel that they belong to a caring organisation. Staff from each department were called upon to channel their worries for eventual solutions.

The outcome of this has been described by the Head of Stakeholders Involvement, Paul-Henri Mbongo, as what has led to creating a more enabling working environment for employees.

"The work environment reflects on employees’ overall performance and productivity.  It is the quality of the employees’ workplace environment that most impacts on their level of motivation, subsequently performance. Here at MTN we are at ease and like a family," he said.

Mbongo and his colleagues hold the opinion that, "improving the environment in which the job is performed motivates employees to perform better". This has much to do with organisational commitment and job satisfaction.

Relating the current situation with the past five years, Tantoh Louis, of the Regulations and Corporate Affairs department, said, "increasingly, MTN shows care for its people with certain actions”

"The HR has made sure that we enjoy certain incentives; she assured that salaries are paid on time and some occasions even before the due date," he added.

Whilst Tantoh relates thoughts to work advantages Mefire Martha, a customer service staff, loves the family she has found at MTN Cameroon.

It should be recalled that the multinational was introduced in Cameroon in February 2000. A subsidiary of the South African giant, it was set up with the mission of offering Cameroonians simple, innovative and accessible solutions to meet their communication needs.

In 22 years, MTN Cameroon has turned the telephone from a luxury item reserved for a privileged class into a mass object enabling Cameroonians to communicate easily.

MTN Cameroon has 2,519 employees. With its excellent human resource management schemes under Evangeline Biboum, MTN has won six awards and recognitions.

These include; Future Fit Talent & Culture: Overall Winner MTN Group, best head of HR of the year voted by the peers,  best operating company, OPCO for Sustainable engagement, best OPCO to work for employee net promoter score, best OPCO for Impactful communication and best OPCO for Rewards & Recognition.
