After receiving attributes: Senator Nebah Bridget dedicates mandate to women, girls’ empowerment.

Senator Prof Nebah Ndosiri Bridget Ndoye has dedicated her five-year mandate as senator to working towards empowering women and girls in the North West Region.

She declared her intensions briefly after receiving her accoutrements as senator of the third legislature Saturday April 15.

The solemn plenary session was chaired at the Yaounde Conference Centre by the Eldest Senator, Rene Ze Nguele, in the presence of some members of government and of the diplomatic cycles.

Quizzed on the significance of Saturday’s ceremony, the university don cum Senator said: “Today, we are putting on the attributes and it is some sort of installation to our functions. So, from today. I really feel and believe that I am in the Senate”.

As she looks forward to carrying out her duties as a lawmaker, Senator Nebah Ndosiri expressed gratitude to God and the President of the ruling Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement, CPDM.

“I feel humbled and very elated for this special grace for me to be Senator of the Republic of Cameroon. I want to thank God Almighty for this grace and to thank President Paul Biya for giving me this opportunity to serve the Cameroon nation as a Senator,” she stated. 

She further stressed that: “Work has started today and I am looking forward to carrying out the duties of a Senator. Senators are there to scrutinise laws, control government action and fast-track decentralisation, which means being pillars of local development”.

To her, within the next five years and more, she remains committed to the empowerment of girls and women in the North West Region, especially in Mezam Division, her political base. 

Her message of empowering women and girls was further re-echoed as she hosted the massive population that turned out at her reception site in Yaounde to celebrate with her.

She was honoured during the reception with the presence of elite of the North West region, some Mezam traditional rulers, amongst other dignitaries. 

In her keynote message to her guests, Senator Prof Nebah Bridget categorically declared to being open to working with individuals and groups for the advancement of peace and development in Mezam and the North West Region entirely.

 

Described as a silent achiever

Prof Nebah Ndosiri was described by the majority of speakers during the reception ceremony as a perfect fit for the Senate job.

Speaking on behalf of the North West elite, the Minister in charge of Special duties at the Presidency of the Republic, Prof Paul Ghogomu Mingo, indicated that Senator Nebah has the mental and intellectual capacity to fulfill the daunting task of a Senator.

Reminding her of the expectations of her electorate who voted her, Minister Ghogomu said: “I have seen some mayors here. They are waiting for you to make sure that you carry their grievances to the powers that be. You should be ready and knowing who you are, your humility will open you doors”.

While calling on the population to accompany her realise her goals, Minister Ghogomu urged them to put her in their prayers.

 

Royal blessings from Fons

The native of Bamendakwe village in Mezam Division has become the first woman to have been elected Senator from Mezam.

Bearing the message of the Fon of Bamendankwe, Fon Forchesiri III, the chairman of the Bamendankwe Traditional Council, Prof Martin Ndumu, extended the blessing and congratulations of the traditional rulers of Mezam divisions to Prof Nebah Ndosiri.

“I want to say you have the qualifications both in academics and in experience to meet the challenges of the task that has been discharged on you this evening. On behalf of the Fon of Bamendankwe, the Fons of Mezam and the people of Mezam, we welcome you to this high office of the Republic,” Prof Ndumu stated. 

 

Senator Prof Nebah Ndosiri, the woman

She is an Associate Professor in Inorganic Chemistry from the Faculty of Science, University of Yaounde I. The varsity lecturer of high standing has also lectured in several other universities including University of Bamenda, UBa.

Prior to her brilliant election on March 12, the researcher was serving as Technical Adviser Number One to the Minister of Women's Empowerment and the Family.

The solution-seeker and soft-spoken woman has become a rallying force of no-common repute. Due to her honest and judicious management of finances, the people of Bamendankwe found her worthy to handle their finances and elected her to the position of National Treasurer of the Bamendankwe Cultural and Development Association, BAMEDCA. 

She is also an adviser to the Bamendankwe Women International Elite Association, Ngwarre. 

Politically, the erudite politician is a supporter of ruling Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement, CPDM. In 2016, she was elected president of the WCPDM Mezam 1A section, a position she holds till date. 

She equally earned the confidence of the CPDM Central Committee as she was made resource person of the WCPDM National Bureau for the preparation of the 2020 legislative, municipal and regional elections. 

Prof Nebah Ndosiri was leader of the Head of State’s Peace-keeping mission to Bamenda I subdivision. As a charismatic politician, she has played a leading role that has seen mayors and parliamentarians elected not only in Bamenda I subdivision, but the rest of the North West region. 

She remains a source for inspiration to women who aspire to go far in politics. She is a grassroots politician despite being a renowned university Professor. Many describe her as a native politician. 

She is said to be a strong advocate for women empowerment and possesses a heart for community work and has supported the empowerment of the girl child at all stages of the society. One of her strengths is her loyalty to hierarchy, which has greatly contributed to her growth in politics. She is married with children.
