Israeli Ambassador to Cameroon dies!.

The Israeli Ambassador to Cameroon, Isi Yanouka, has died. His country’s embassy in Yaounde confirmed the news yesterday.

The diplomatic mission announced the demise of the senior diplomat yesterday but didn’t immediately disclose the circumstances leading to his death.

The embassy also didn’t immediately state where the veteran diplomat died.

However, in an outing via the institution’s verified Facebook page Monday, the embassy merely wrote “… the State of Israel…is devastated by the sad news of the passing of their beloved Ambassador, H.E Isi Yanouka, Ambassador of Israel to Cameroon…”

The embassy then described Ambassador Yanouka as “an outstanding diplomat, a generous and gentle person, who shared values of humanism”.

“His actions were a reflection of the excellent relations between Cameroon and Israel,” the statement added.

Ambassador Yanouka joined the Israeli Foreign Service in 1994 and held a series of positions, including that of Director of the Department of International Organisations before being appointed as Ambassador of Israel to Ivory Coast, Togo and Benin.

“Our thoughts and prayers go to his family, loved ones and friends at this difficult time,” the embassy statement reads.

Ambassador Isi Yanouka arrived Yaounde in February 2020 as head of his country’s diplomatic mission to Cameroon and other neighboring central African nations.

As we took to press last night, Yaounde had not officially commented on the demise of the Israeli envoy to Yaounde.

Prior to his appointment as Ambassador of Israel to Cameroon, he served as Director of International Organisations and Specialised Agencies Department at his country’s foreign Affairs Ministry.

He had earlier served as Head of Brazilian Desk at the Division of Central and South America and the Caribbean at same institution.

Between 2013 and 2016, Isi Yanouka was Israel’s Ambassador to Ivory Coast, Togo, Benin and Burkina Faso with residence in Abidjan.

Meanwhile, from 2010-2013, the now deceased diplomat was Political Adviser at the Permanent Mission of Israel to the United Nations, UN in New York.

Amongst other portfolios, the late Ambassador Isi Yanouka was delegate to the 5th Committee on procurement in the UN, covering Francophone African issues (bilateral and Security Council).

He had also served as Head of West African Desk at the Division for Africa, MFA at the foreign service of his country.

He served as counsellor at the Embassy of Israel in Dublin and also as Head of Foreign Diplomats and NGOs accreditation Desk at the Protocol Division, MFA.

Between 1999 and 2001, Isi Yanouka was Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Israel in Yaounde, Cameroon.

He had earlier served as Consul at the Consulate General of Israel in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Between 1993 and 1995, the late diplomat was Cadet at the Israeli Foreign Ministry. Isi Yanouka was holder of a Master’s degree, MA in Government and Public Diplomacy, IDC Herzliya. He was also holder of a Bachelor of Arts Degree, BA in French Literature and Spanish and Latin American Studies.
