MIDENO offers 3,000 chicks to 100 persons living with disabilities.

The distribution was done at the institution’s head office in Bamenda. According to MIDENO, the goal is to improve on the livelihoods of families through access to farm inputs and stepping up social rural infrastructure.

The General Manager of MIDENO, Cletus Anye Matoyah, told reporters that PLWDs are strong agents of development. He explained that in the institution’s vision of empowering the population, PLWDs are vital in making development holistic.

The beneficiaries received 30 chicks each. Matoyah said they are expected to feed the chicks and sell them once they mature. He also stated that the “gesture will go a long way to support and improve production and productivity in the livestock sector".

Anye Matoyah also used the occasion to announce the handing over of tricycles and grinding mills and other items to PLWDs in the days ahead. 

The 3,000 chicks distributed was the fruit of a partnership MIDENO and the Socio Economic Empowerment of Person's with Disability, SEEPD Program of the Cameroon Baptist Convention Health Services CBCHS. The deal was signed in 2022.

The President of the Coordinating Unit of Associations of Person's with Disability, Nogning Armelle, told The Guardian Post that the offer from MIDENO “elevates those who haven't had something doing and serves as a startup capital to improve their lives”.

Another beneficiary, Joseph Atanga, a father of two, said life had become difficult given that the chicks he was rearing before had been stolen. The 30 chicks from MIDENO, he said, would “relief me of that stress”.

For Priestly Nchamukong, the offer would increase is income and boost his skills in poultry farming.

Going by Hamza Dan Pullo, the supplier of the chick, the consignment handed to beneficiaries was the best breed in the market. He told   reporters that the chicks are “fully vaccinated and will be consumed within a month”.
