Donga Mantung: Another Ngarbuh attack leaves two dead.

The inhabitants of the village were earlier this week plunged into sorrow and lamentation again. This follows fresh confrontation between separatist fighters operating in the area and soldiers.

The crossfire between the soldiers and Amba fighters is reported to have left at least two persons dead. The incident which has is reported to have left the entire community in panic, is said to have occurred Monday March 27.

Reports we gathered indicate that the suspected Amba fighters ambushed a security van that was patrolling the area.

The security van, other sources disclosed, was on its way to supply food to other soldiers in Ntumbaw when they were reportedly ambushed.

Deafening crossfire is said to have ensued as the soldiers responded in full force following the surprise attack from the separatists.

We further gathered that at least two of the separatist fighters who ambushed the soldiers were gunned down in the course of the crossfire. The attack, we further gleaned, left two of the soldiers seriously injured.

Reports we could not independently confirm indicate that among the wounded soldiers was a Sergeant, identified as Geslain Marcel.

He is said to be of the Bafoussam squadron and Staff Sergeant, Bouko Boko, reported to be of the Nkambe Battalion.

The injured soldiers, we further gathered, were rushed to the Ndu District Hospital where they are said to be undergoing treatment.

Attack reminds population of 2020 massacre

The fresh attack in Ngarbuh is said to have left the population of the area restless as it only reminds them of the massacre that occurred in the area on the night of February 14, 2020, when six soldiers, accompanied by armed Mbororo vigilante group members, stormed Ngarbuh, killing some 21 civilians, including 13 children and a pregnant woman.

Government initially denied that state forces were involved in the massacre. Pressure from across the board forced the Head of State, President Paul Biya, to set up a commission of inquiry to investigate the matter.

The commission of inquiry in a report that was read over state media, April 21, 2020, admitted that security forces carried out the attack. A statement from the commission which was issued by the Secretary General at the Presidency, Ferdinand Ngoh Ngoh, on behalf of the Head of State, ordered disciplinary proceedings against some security officers.

They included Major Nyiangono Ze Charles Eric, Commander of the 52nd Motorised Infantry Battalion, BIM, and all the servicemen who took part in the Ngarbuh macabre operation.

Biya had also ordered the arrest of Sergeant Baba Guida, Gendarme Sanding Cyrille and private first class Haranga Gilbert as well as some ten members of the vigilante committee involved in the Ngarbuh tragic incident.

The servicemen concerned, the statement had added, were already at the disposal of the Yaounde military tribunal while the concerned members of the vigilante committee were actively being tracked down.
