MTN Foundation succors Buea flood victims.

Leading telecommunication company, MTN Cameroon, has through its corporate arm, MTN Foundation, offered relief to victims of the recent flood that killed two persons in Buea, Fako Division of the South West Region, leaving several other persons homeless.

The MTN Foundation offered the gifts during a ceremony in Buea Friday March 24. 200 families benefitted from the offer. The event was presided over by the Divisional Officer, DO, of Buea, Abba Abdouraman.

It was in the presence of the representative of the Governor of the South West Region, Mbong Vanessa, the Paramount Ruler of Buea, HRM Dr Robert Esuka Endeley and a delegation of MTN employees led by Jacqueline Iyock, representative of the Chief Executive Officer, CEO of MTN Cameroon.

The gifts comprised didactics, foodstuffs, mattresses and toiletries.

According to the Executive Secretary of MTN Foundation, Danielle Mbome Efoula, MTN Cameroon took the commitment to help as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility, CSR, with the Buea Population.

“MTN Cameroon did not come to Buea empty-handed. In addition to our words of comfort, we are providing the victims with basic equipment for those who have been rendered homeless, didactic materials for students who have lost their school supplies and food,” she explained.

Mbome said the donation is not an isolated case. He said it is part of the national humanitarian plan of the MTN Foundation that has been standing with population in difficulties in different localities. She insisted that, it is a show of solidarity from MTN Cameroon.

According to the Chief Executive Officer, CEO of MTN Cameroon, Mitwa Ng'ambi, “as Africans, solidarity is deeply rooted in our DNA. Our presence with the victims of the Buea flood is part of a long tradition, given that; MTN Foundation has been working daily for the well-being of our communities in Cameroon since 2005”.

Through such actions, MTN Cameroon, Mitwa said, is “contributing to the improvement of their quality of life. We are working together for the progress of the country and of Africa”.
