North Region: MTN Cameroon awards five MFCFA to 10 girls to boost self-employment.

The Chief Executive Officer, CEO of MTN Cameroon, Mitwa Ng’ambi, handed the scholarship to beneficiaries over the weekend. This was during a ceremony in Garoua.

The offer comes after over 100 girls drawn from across the North Region were trained in different fields including Digital Marketing.

The training was done at the Vocational Training Centre of the Regional Delegation of the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and the Family, MINPROFF.

MTN Cameroon CEO said the money was to enable the girls become self-employed and autonomous. Mitwa Ng’ambi used the occasion to share her experience as a woman in leadership with the girls.

“Training the girl child is a pleasant duty for us and a social duty for MTN Cameroon,” she said, adding that, “digitalisation is undoubtedly the driving force that leads to self-achievement. Today, the connected world in which we live, offers us many opportunities”.

She also told them that, “these young women, wherever they are, must know this and above all benefit from it. Perhaps the journey, which I and all the inspiring people here have accomplished so far, can motivate them to realise their dreams and become the leaders of tomorrow”.

Mitwa Ng’ambi said her company responded to a call from the Lamidat of Garoua to support the initiative to empower girls.

“… very soon, we will see lives change positively, thanks to the impetus received. With the Lamidat of Garoua and under the supervision of MINPROFF, we will continue to carry out actions likely to increase the rate of schooling of the girl child, and thus, positively impact the society”.

Special interest on education of girl child

The MTN Cameroon boss recalled having bolstered her interest in contributing to the education of the girl child in the North Region after a previous discussion with the queen of the Lamidat.

She also quotes the Minister of Women’s Empowerment and the Family, Prof Marie Therese Abene Ondoa as having further triggered her interest in the girl child.

“I had the opportunity to appraise the urgency of acting to help the girl child to believe in herself and realise her dreams, all of which is absolutely conditioned by education,” Mitwa Ng’ambi stated.

Beneficiaries salute initiative, promise to work hard

Most of the beneficiaries thanked MTN Cameroon for the opportunity to start a new life. They also took delight in the issue of girl child education gaining attention in the region.

One of the beneficiaries aid: “MTN Cameroon is a citizen company that brings smiles everywhere”. Another thanked the Queen of the Lamidat for also taking interest in empowering the girl child.

The trainee also thanked authorities, the Regional Delegate of the Ministry of Women Empowerment and the Family and the Mayor of the Garoua I Council supporting the move.
