FECAFOOT through the Cameroon women’s football league, LFFC, and Guinness Cameroon held talks at the federation’s headquarters in Yaounde.

“The FECAFOOT headquarters this Friday, hosted a consultative meeting between the Cameroon Football Federation and the Women's Football League of Cameroon on the one hand and Guinness Cameroun, on the other hand. The discussions focused on the improvements of the Guinness Super League 2023 for a better experience for the public,” FECAFOOT wrote on its official Twitter handle.

FECAFOOT in the tweet, hinted that numerous positives will be coming up for Cameroonian women’s football in the future thanks to decisions arrived at during the meeting.

“FECAFOOT and its partners Guinness Cameroun for a better show.  Huge announcements in prospect. Guinness Super League 2023; FECAFOOT and its partner Guinness Cameroon for a better show,” the FA stated in the statement.

Renewing good-old win-win partnership

The meeting between FECAFOOT and Guinness Cameroon has been described by Cameroonian football officials as an effective way for the further dynamisation of what has been a fruitful collaboration between the three bodies.

Guinness Cameroon became the lead sponsor of the women’s first-division football championship in 2020.

The coming of the brewery company led to the renaming of the women’s top flight championship to the Guinness Super League.

Guinness’ arrival also most importantly led to the popularisation of the women’s top tier in Cameroon.

Fans’ turnout in stadia during match days highly improved partly due to improved quality and the marketing approach brought about by the structure.

The marketing also led to the league’s games being broadcast on various national television channels.

The partnership however slightly witnessed a slight decline late last year.

FECAFOOT in December announced it had cut down players’ salaries by 50%.

This entailed the players, who per the innovations by the federation were supposed to earn the sum of 100,000 FCFA as monthly salaries, had their salaries reduced by 50%.

FECAFOOT in the announcement on December 22, stated it was deducting the sum following Guinness Cameroon’s failure to meet up with its agreed obligation of paying half of the salaries for the players.

These, it stated, to ensure clubs outlined projects to match with the envisaged budgets set aside by the federation.

With the recent consultations between parties involved, Cameroonian football lovers are optimistic the various leakages experienced from the reported fallout; will be reviewed and adjusted by the federation.
