The Governor of the West Region, Awa Fonka Augustine, has talked the traditional rulers of the Bamouns and the Tikars in the Noun Division of his administrative unit to bury the hatchet and turn a new leaf.

This is the outcome of a crisis meeting staged in Bafoussam on Friday February 17. The gathering was at the invitation of the Governor. After listening to the super scale civil administrator, both the Sultan of the Bamouns, Nabil Mbombo Noya and the king of the Tikars, His Majesty Ngamon Soule III, agreed to open a new chapter.

Both traditional rulers regretted the recent clashes that resulted in tension but agreed with the governor that, peace was the sole path to follow. Before the declarations of both traditional rulers, Governor Awa took his time to insist on the need for peace.

The administrator had said: “It is high time these two communities come together for not just a hand shake of peace but a sincere acceptance for peace to reign. This is for the benefit of everyone most especially the locals of these two communities”.

He expressed his regrets over the clashes that erupted, insisting that: “No two communities should be at loggerheads in this era. Without peace, there is absolutely no means of development as two can only come together, work together when there is friendship”. He reminded the two kings that they are only custodians of tradition but fathers of the people who should shine the light.

Tikar King regrets clashes, embrace peace

Speaking at the peace meeting, the leader of the Tikars in Magba, His Majesty Ngamon Soule III, said he was not proud of the fighting that erupted in his palace. Despite stating that his people acted in defense of their king and palace, King Soule said peace is what both people need.

While hailing the governor for initiating the peace meeting, King Soule restated that “…the two communities will henceforth work closely for everyone’s benefit. We thank the Governor for such an initiative”.
