Bamenda: CDENO shares 30,000 chicks, 100 piglets, animal feed to farmers.

Governor Adolph Lele Lafrique handing support to persons with disabilities

The North West Livestock Development Fund, CDENO, has distributed 30,000 day-old chicks, 100 piglets and 142.5 tonnes (5,350 bags) of animal feed to some 550 livestock farmers, with special focus on persons with disabilities.

The distribution took place on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at the CDENO esplanade in Bamenda.

The exercise, placed under the distinguished patronage of North West Governor, Adolph Lele Lafrique, aims to strengthen the existing partnership between livestock farmers and CDENO, and increase the production and productivity of the poultry, piggery and dairy sectors in the country.

The assistance, comprising 30,000 day-old chicks, 100 pure-breed piglets, 15 tonnes of poultry starter feed (P1), 2.5 tonnes of pig starter feed (D1) and 124 tonnes of dairy feed (D1), came through the Government of Cameroon, the Ministry of Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industries, MINEPIA, and the Ministry of Finance, MINFI.

Governor Adolph Lele’s message to beneficiaries

Speaking at the event, North West Governor, Adolph Lele Lafrique, said assistance to livestock farmers started in 2022 and has been successful, as evidenced in the constant availability of chicken on the market at moderate and affordable prices, especially during end-of-year festivities. He also thanked the farmers for their relentless efforts to feed the Region through their hard work.

“I thank you from the bottom of my heart for all that you are doing to feed our communities and care for your animals through every season. I encourage you to make good use of these inputs to increase the quantity and quality of chicken, pork and milk production in the Region,” he said.

Lele Lafrique also appreciated the farmers for their contribution to the fight against unemployment and for assisting the population through their livestock activities.

“I also urge you to be ambassadors of peace in your various communities, so that through your proactive activities, those fighting against the development of this Region would see the need to join you to work for a return of peace to the Region. You see something, you say something,” Lele Lafrique concluded.

CDENO Director explains focus on persons with disabilities

The Director of CDENO, Mbah Shupong Michael, said this year’s edition was the fifth. He explained that persons with disabilities have continued to impress the institution, which is why CDENO will continue supporting and empowering them like any other person and even more.

“People with disabilities are the first group of persons that really impressed us. Last year, 30 of them benefited, and after three months, they came back telling us how the inputs helped them. We discovered that truly, disability is not inability. They have the patience to take care of these animals more than those who don’t have the kind of disabilities that they have,” Shupong said.

He also explained the timing of the distribution, saying September is a peak period ahead of the end-of-year festivities.

“We intentionally distributed these inputs in September so that by December, they should have reached acceptable sizes ready for consumption,” he disclosed.

He added that last year, one of the beneficiaries with the biggest fowl, weighing 13kg at the Agric Show in Bamenda encouraged CDENO to continue supporting farmers.

Beneficiaries appreciate support

Limen Florence, a person with disabilities and Coordinator of Persons with Disabilities, and Ali Erik, another person with disabilities, were among those who received 50 day-old chicks and poultry feed.

They thanked CDENO for supporting them to become self-reliant, while contributing to the growth of their communities. They indicated that they would venture into poultry farming and multiply what they had received.

Limen promised that she would follow up with members of her association to ensure that they make good use of the inputs received. On behalf of the other persons with disabilities who benefited, Limen Florence thanked CDENO for its inclusivity and for continuing to consider persons with disabilities in its programmes.

It should be noted that most of the products distributed to the beneficiaries were produced by CDENO. Farmers were encouraged to keep CDENO informed about the development of their farms through the various MINEPIA staff members in the field to guarantee continued support from the government.

Livestock farmers were also urged to contact CDENO directly to place their requests and avoid passing through other persons who may end up exploiting them.
