National Assembly speaker, diaspora compatriots discuss dev’t projects.

Officials during audience in Switzerland 

The Speaker of the National Assembly, Rt Hon Théodore Datouo, has discussed development projects with some Cameroonians in Switzerland. 

This was on September 17, on the sidelines of the official visit of House Speaker to Switzerland. 



He used the visit to grant audience to Cameroonians resident in Switzerland. The meeting was attended by the Ambassador of Cameroon to Switzerland, H.E. Leonard Henri Bindzi, and other Cameroonian officials. 

The Association of Cameroonian Doctors in Switzerland, MEDCAMSWISS, led by its president, Dr. Nkondjo, presented the association’s project for the construction of a private hospital in Cameroon and expressed its readiness to provide assistance in the fields of hemodialysis, neurology and general healthcare delivery. 

A lecturer and entrepreneur, Prof Momo Sonna Lambert, also presented an innovative project on vein biometric identification aimed at easing the identification of persons and the authentication of official documents in the country. 

The Association for the Defence of Republican Institutions, also known in French as Les Patriotes, led by Piasio Madeleine, presented its humanitarian activities. It strongly condemned the increasing cases of femicide in the country, and unveiled plans to create a centre to assist victims of gender-based violence. 

Stressing on the increase in femicide in the country, a lawyer, Barrister Nda Zoa, also decried the scourge of femicide and declared her availability to set up a reflection committee with Parliament to work towards stronger legislation to protect women and curb the phenomenon. 

The Switzerland Section President of the Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement, CPDM, Mani Akoa, speaking on behalf of party supporters in Switzerland, called for the addressing of key concerns of the diaspora such as dual nationality, the representation of the diaspora in Parliament, and the facilitation of investment projects in Cameroon. 

Discussions also focused on cocoa production and transformation, highlighting plans to complete a cocoa processing unit already under construction in Douala, and also the support of development initiatives in the hospitality sector, trading and the sharing of expertise. 

Rt. Hon Datouo, during the audience, applauded the diaspora Cameroonians' engagement for a positive and constructive diaspora. He assured them of Parliament's support for their endeavours to impact the growth of the country and pledged to cause change and reforms through laws that address the aspirations of Cameroonians both at home and abroad.
