Donga Mantung: Horror as Amba fighters kill Ndu Driver’s Union President.

The late Issa Ntarika

There is mayhem in Ndu, Donga Mantung Division of the North West Region, following the brutal killing of the President of the Ndu Driver’s Union, Issa Ntarika.

The now late Driver’s Union president, who was also councilor of the Ndu Council, was killed by suspected Amba fighters operating in the area. He was killed spending weeks in captivity, with ransom reportedly paid by his family.

The Mayor of Ndu, Abdou Kanfon Borno, confirmed the macabre incident Monday, before extending his condolences to the bereaved family.

In the statement confirming the killing of the municipal councillor, Mayor Abdou Kanfon, wrote that: “It is with deep pain and sadness that we inform the population of Ndu Municipality of the brutal killing of Issa Ntarika; the councilor for Ntisaw and the President of the Driver’s Union of Ndu Subdivision by Amba fighters of Ngarbuh/ Mbam”.

The municipal authority disclosed that the late Issa Ntarika was abducted from Ntisaw on Tuesday August 25, 2026 “and tortured continuously until he was finally killed on Sunday September 15, 2026, still in their custody. His corpse has not been recovered by his family yet”.

The mayor stated that: “A huge sum of money was collected from his family as ransom even though, they still went ahead to kill him. He lives behind a widow and six children to mourn him. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family”.

He continued that: “Another victim, this time, a council worker is currently fighting for his life at the Nkambe Regional Hospital Annex after passing through the same torture chamber and huge sums of money extorted from his family”.

Mayor Abdou Kanfon regretted that Ndu has been under reign of terror “for some months now through kidnapping and ransom taking accompanied by aggravated torture from Amba Fighters. The community is in serious agony as no one knows who might be next”.

He said a handful of armed individuals using secession as password have confiscated the destiny of “our people and have been using it carelessly for their own earns”.

“The Head of State, H.E President Paul Biya prescribed community dialogue as an indigenous approach towards achieving sustainable peace. We have to engaged our traditional and religious authorities, civil society organisations and other opinion leaders across the board to continue with peace and reconciliation efforts earlier initiated by the Ndu Council,” he continued.

The mayor was blunt that: “What intimidates us today most is not the activities of evil men but the suspicious silence and inactivity of good people”.

Insecurity on the rise…

For several months now, Ndu and its neighboring communities haven’t known peace. The subdivision has repeatedly come under attacks orchestrated by Ambazonia fighters.

In January this year, at least 12 people, including women, children and men from the Fulani community, were killed in attacks on several localities in Gidado/Mbandfrung, located between Ntumbaw and Ndu town in Donga Mantung Division of the North West Region.

Homes were also set ablaze during the violence. The killings, which reportedly occurred in the early hours of the day were described as retaliatory attacks carried out by Ambazonia fighters against members of the Fulani community.

We gathered that members of the community were accused by the attackers of collaborating with the military, including allegedly providing information that led to a military raid, days to the attack in which about a dozen separatist fighters were killed.

Residents said entire families were targeted as the assailants moved through the area, setting houses on fire and forcing others to flee.

The Mayor of Ndu Council, Alhadji Abdou Kanfon Borno, had condemned the attack describing it as barbaric.

He had recalled that: “They came to a place in Ndu subdivision called Gidado, in the Mbandung area, and attacked a Fulani family—killing children under five, killing women, and also killing youths. They killed about 12 youths and wounded many. It is not the first time they have attacked Fulani people. Recently, some Fulani were ambushed again by the Amba terrorists. Some time ago, a youth from Mbandung who was on his way to work at the Cameroon Tea Estate was attacked and killed along the road. On another occasion, they identified three Fulani men in the cattle market, removed them, and shot them dead. The sad thing is that whenever they kill Fulani, there tends to be revenge on the native population, and it is causing us a great deal of distress”.

The mayor had used the opportunity to call on the government and the international community to intervene and protect the Fulani populations, whom he said, have suffered greatly since the start of the crisis in the North West and South West Regions. “They have been targeted all over,” he added.
